This song is sung by John Steel in 1920. The song is mentioned in the book "The Great Gatsby" written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The song is mentioned in chapter 5 at one of Gatsby's Parties. This song plays because it shows Daisy's indecision about Tom and Gatsby. One of the songs quotes is"there's the ballroom, a dream room for two". Which shows her indecision because Gatsby is the ballroom and Tom is "two" part because it shows closeness and familiar. The song sets a mood of a picnic montage or a frolic feeling. If I were to compare the song to modern day music I would compare it to Sunday Morning by Maroon 5. The song is super soft sounding and leaves a happy frolic feeling. The song says "in the darkness she is all I see" which shows the admiration of a woman, like Gatsby has for Daisy.

Ain't We Got Fun?

This song isn't originally written by the brothers but sung by Van and Schenck in 1921. The song is used in chapter 5. The song is supposed to be mocking Daisy. It show's when she didn't chose Gatsby when he was poor and the lyric says "not much money, oh but honey, ain't we got fun". The song continues to nag at her and her family life and her affair with Gatsby. The song I have chosen to compare to modern music is Complicated by Avril Lavigne. I chose this song because it is about being in a complicated life or relationship. The song is a very easy mood and it puts the listeners into a conflicted mood. I am relating it to Daisy and her conflicted mood with Tom and Gatsby and she feels like she has to be "somebody else it makes me frustrated".

The Sheik of Araby

The Sheik of Araby is written by Harry B Smith in 1921. The song is put in the Great Gatsby as a children's chant in the park about a man who is the embodiment of love and he gets all of the ladies. The song says "your love belongs to me". At this point in the story Jordan and Nick just had a date and Jordan was recalling and how Daisy and Jay first met. Then Nick suddenly realizes how Gatsby moves right across the river from Daisy in hopes of reconciling their love. The song gives off a funny and swingy vibe. I chose the song "I'm the Man" by Aloe Blacc. I chose this song to be ironic to Gatsby. He is the man the King and no one really believes his life, The song quotes "I believe in every lie that I've ever told". He is said to be a ladies man but only has eyes for Daisy. Plus, the song gives off a swingy, dance vibe like the song used in the novel
