she was a significant 42 year old woman, one day she was on a bus in Alabama after work during that time African Americans had a designated seat in the back of the bus. When white folks came in Rosa parks and two others were being told to give up their seats but they refused. Eventually being arrested becoming the "mother of the modern-day civil rights movement".

Civil Rights Act Of 1957

many southern states made it difficult for black people to vote. Forcing them to take literacy tests that were near impossible. Administration pressured Congress to consider new registration for civil rights. On September 9th 1957, the first major civil rights act since reconstruction in legislation was passed by Congress. Federal prosecuting to anyone who tried preventing someone from voting.

Freedom Riders

They had begun riding on May 4th, 1961. Several African americans and six white people who boarded buses going towards New Orleans. Confronted by an act of violence in South Carolina. As they made a pit stop they got their tires slashed and their vehicle was firebombed. As freedom riders were arrested or beaten, other anonymous groups of freedom riders would take their place.

March On Washington

The March on washington was intended to protest for jobs and freedom for African Americans. A crowd of about 250,000 people gathered for a peaceful protest in washington DC. The leader of the March was Martin Luther King Jr and he initiated the protest with his "I have a dream" speech.
