Given the importance of the museum, on September 17, 1962, Indonesian Government took over the management from the Indonesian Cultural Institution. At present, The National Museum is sheltered under The Ministry of Education and Culture.

Entering the museum, the visitor will go through the old building as the main gate. The museum is separated into two area, old building, and new building.
