Therapeutic use

MVA is done to end a pregnancy.

It's often used during the first trimester, or up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. It may sometimes be used up to 14 weeks of pregnancy

3. As a preliminary step to diagnostic curettage of the endometrium.

4. Prior to insufflations or hysterosalpingography in cases with a narrow external os.

5. For diagnosis of spasmodic dysmenorrhea

3. Drainage of hematometra or pyometra.

Complications:

1. Maternal Trauma: Improper application or excessive force during forceps-assisted delivery can lead to trauma to the mother's genital tract, including lacerations, tears, or bruising of the vaginal walls, perineum, or cervix. Severe tears may be risk of postpartum complications such as pain, infection, and difficulty with subsequent childbirth.

2. Fetal Trauma: Incorrect application of forceps or excessive force can cause trauma to the baby's head or face, resulting in lacerations, bruising, or even skull fractures. While rare, these injuries can lead to short-term complications such as scalp swelling or facial bruising.
