         <description><![CDATA[<div>&gt;Laissez-faire philosophies, such as minimizing the role of government intervention and taxation in the free markets, and the idea that an "invisible hand" guides supply and demand are among the key ideas Smith's writing is responsible for promoting.<br>&gt;In 1759 Smith published <em>The Theory of Moral Sentiments</em>, a book whose main contention is that human morality depends on sympathy between the individual and other members of society.<br>&gt;Adam Smith believed that monopolies were bad for the economy because they disrupted the way things should actually function in markets. Although he was generally in favor of free markets, he believed that restrictions to free trade were sometimes necessary and could be used as economic weapons to reduce poverty. He also believed that it was sometimes necessary for the government to assist companies and industries.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
