She penned the international best seller "Bread Winner", she has won the Ruth Schawtz award, the Middle East award, Sweden's Peter Pan Prize, the Addams Children's Book award,  Vicky Metcalf Award for a Body of Work and Governor General’s Literary Award. Deborah Ellis has travelled around the world and has helped an Afghan Refugee Camp and many more and she has written over thirty books.
