Second, ChatGPT’s disadvantage is that the source of the information is unclear. When using ChatGPT, users should check the source of the information provided and verify that the information is reliable. In order to develop critical thinking, the process of weighing the reliability of information is essential, and ChatGPT is difficult to support this process. Thus, the user should make additional efforts to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of the information.

Second, Chat GPT can be ordered to give feedback at anytime we want, which means that if we show our works to it, it presents us with a variety of critical ways to improve our writing. Suppose that you have just completed something but are not pretty sure whether you have done it well or not - shouldn’t I add something more to it? What is worse, no one is around you who would review it and then offer a list of personalized suggestions for you. However, with the help of Chat GPT, you get to learn how to enrich your writings in a lot of ways. Also, this feedback would proceed to stimulate your critical thinking when it comes to supplementing your previous writing with the things you would otherwise have not come up with or even taken into consideration.

People tend to overly trust information produced by AI, perceiving it as objective or authoritative. This could diminish students’ capacity to analyze and evaluate the validity of information independently. Even when AI shows a biased viewpoint, there is a risk of unconditionally following that viewpoint. Although AI draws information from a vast database, it can be described from a specific perspective. Moreover, the information may not always be accurate or current. These problems can potentially instill a distorted perspective in students’ thinking. Unconditional trust in AI makes them accustomed to accepting information without criticism.

We thought about whether using Chat GPT in this way would be helpful for critical thinking. As a result, it was concluded that using Chat GPT can not help critical thinking. As suggested above, this can limit critical thinking when we rely too heavily on ChatGPT and the source of the data presented in Chat GPT is not clear. It seems that using ChatGPT will act more as a disadvantage in critical thinking. Therefore, Chat GPT can have an adverse effect and can not encourage critical thinking in writing.
