The Micra AV is the latest technology offered by Medtronic in pacemaker systems. Approved by the FDA in 2016, the device is the "World’s smallest pacemaker
– 93% smaller than conventional pacemakers
– 63% fewer major complications than traditional pacemakers." (Medtronic, 2019)
This minimally invasive procedure allows the device to be implanted percutaneously utilizing a transcatheter via the femoral vein. It has the longevity of a traditional device with multiple modes offered. A patient, who is needing venticular pacing, can opt for this implantation and reduce risks seen in traditional device implants.

In my opinion, this is an excellent option for qualified candidates. Healthcare continues to find new ways to make procedures less invasive, cost effective and increase patient satisfaction. This device delivers in all aspects. Patients have less surgical risks and less irritations device leads can generate. This new type of innovation opens the doors for advancements in cardiac syncronization and patient compliance.
