In this episode, parents refuse to give their child who has cancer possibly life saving treatment due to their religion. There are many precedent cases that revolve around this issue that has determined that it is illegal for parents to refuse medical care for their child, even if they are a minor. In Rhode Island, where this shows takes place, weed is very illegal and, "Possession of marijuana up to one ounce by an individual 18 years or older is a civil violation."
