Pictured above is a picture of downtown Chicago. This picture is important to me as it signifies where I was born and raised the majority of my life. I moved to Kansas and started to attend JCCC shortly after I graduated. I have been in Kansas 3 years now and I can say I do love it here but nothing will ever compare to my hometown.

My name is Alyssa Robinson, I am 20 years old and currently pursuing my Associate in Liberal Arts hoping to continue to get my BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) in the next couple of years. I work as a special needs Para at an elementary school. I am passionate about what I do, I have known for quite some time that I wanted to become a social worker simply because every child deserves to be heard and helped with their struggles. I am taking this Sociology of families class to help better understand how certain family dynamics and circumstances can shape you as a person.

This is a picture of my family (most of them). I am the eldest daughter of 6 siblings (3 full, and 3 half). Family is extremely important to me because without them I would not be the woman I am today.

My younger sisters are extremely important to me because they have helped me in many ways I can't ever explain. Both of my sisters were diagnosed with ASD at a very young age. By gathering the correct tools and resources I was determined to help in any and every way I could at all times. I wanted to advocate for them because in many settings they are overlooked. This leads me down the path I am at today when I work with children on the spectrum. I love being able to work so closely with children and help them thrive in areas they struggle in. I strongly believe every child deserves a helping hand no matter the circumstances. For this, and many other reasons I will forever be grateful for these two girls.

This is my dog, Hazel. She is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever and my best friend. I adopted her right before I moved out to Kansas and I couldn't be any happier I did.
