Hi! My name is Shree Patel, and I am a junior public health science major. I am from Long Island, NY. After graduation, I want to get a MPH. I am not sure which concentration I would like my studies to be in, but I am leaning towards Epidemiology or Health Administration. I am super excited to learn from what this course has to teach me and looking forward to the rest of the course!

I found that learning to use mural in small groups helped me understand the website a lot better. I think it may have been a little too much time allocated to the second breakout group for the individual interview. I learned a lot about my classmates, as we got to know each other in the breakout groups which was nice. I think having the games in the beginning of class like the "Ask me about ___" was a great way to help get everyone in the class talking.

I think the interviews were something particularly valuable to me. I tried to have the other person lead the interview which is an approach I have never tried before. I thought it was great because I got a lot of information out of them. I didn’t find anything in this class that did not work. I really enjoyed the videos and presentation!!

I think this class was very engaging. I find the various short activities helpful in keeping me engaged in the class, as the class period is so long. I really admired the vase drawing activity, as it was a fun way to show how everything is about perspective. I learned more about my group which I enjoyed! I think videos are fun at times, but after a certain point it is hard to pay attention.

I think last class made me really think about the disparities in our local community. After watching the video about meal distribution for Anne Arundel County I felt like a weight was on my chest. I also really enjoyed watching the seminar for the homework assignment. I learned about the authorization for the vaccine trials. I think my group is getting to know each other a lot better, which has made the atmosphere a lot lighter. I think we will work really well together on future projects

Last class, I found that learning about the Mission of Mercy event was especially valuable. I had no idea that this even existed, despite being a public health student for 3 years. I wish events like these would happen more at the university, as it is such a great way to use the university's resources. I also liked learning about other group's assigned seminars and the ice breaker activity. I do no think there were any aspects of last class that did not work as well for me! I also enjoyed discussing with my team, as we now feel comfortable around each other! When coming up with a name for our group we got into a fun random conversations which made the class really fun.

Last class, we got the opportunity to interview various health professionals. I found this experience to be very beneficial and so much fun. It has been a long time since I was able to interact with so many pub health professionals in a class room setting since classes went virtual. I learned a lot about disparities in the community as well as other communities within the state of Maryland. I wish that the breakout rooms worked better, but with Zoom technical issues are to be expected.

I enjoyed coming up with ideas with my team. I think creating our prototype was really fun and it was nice bouncing ideas off my team. I wish that in the future, we could have made efforts to make our idea work in person. It would be a really meaningful experience to do this in person, but at the current state of the world this cannot be done right now.

Last class, we spent more type refining our prototype. I really enjoyed this time that we had to shape our prototype around one specific individual. We chose to use "Mark" as our individual who was someone our interviewees had met and explained his struggle in getting vaccinated in his county. Our interviewee describes this man as an educated older man that understood how to use technology but could not beat out the individuals from other counties for appointments for vaccination in pg county. I am excited we learned more about the in-person volunteer opportunity. I think going to the farm will be a lot of fun and a great way to get to know my classmates. I wish we could go as a group, but with covid, I understand we need to be extra cautious. I hope that in the future we could make out prototypes a reality.

Last class, we had more time to develop our final projects. We got a little bit more information on what the final project would include, and I am excited to share my team's ideas with the class. Then, we shared our more developed ideas with the class. I really enjoyed hearing how unique everyone's ideas were, considering we all had the same issue we had to come up with a solution for. I think focusing on the idea to create a "way to appreciate flowers" rather than "a vase" has helped us remind ourselves to think outside of the box. I was fully expecting everyone's ideas to be around the same, wther it was a call center, an app or mass vaccination site. Also, I enjoyed getting feedback and having time to chat with Dr. T as a group. I wish we were in person so feedback and discussions like those could be done every class, without the difficultly in navigating breakout rooms. Further, I enjoyed getting some feedback and critiques from our peers. However, I wish we were given more time for comments, as it was nearing the end of class and many of us had to go. Despite this, I also really enjoyed that we secured out times to volunteer at Mona Farms. I signed up with Elinor, and both of us are very excited to go tomorrow and share our experience with the class.

Last class, we had the chance to pitch our project to Mr.Mike from the barbershop. Although he was very busy giving a haircut, he gave us some great feedback about making sure we always think about our heartbeat and what would be best for the community. Further, I visited Moona Farms last Saturday with Ellie and Sophia! We had a lot of fun helping fertilize, water, and even plot some new plants into the planter, We learned a lot about agriculture from the other volunteers, and even met a University of Maryland junior there as well! Everyone at the farm was so fun, welcoming, and super passionate about making that community healthier. We were hoping to meet Dr. T but turns out he is not much of a morning person ahaha! Hopefully, we can have time to go back and help out again! I attached a fun selfie of all of us at the farm and me digging through the dirt (which was so hard!!).

Last class we started to wrap up the end of the course. We continued to work on our final project in our groups and further developed our prototypes. My group decided to use the Barber's, Mr.Mike's, advice and decided to follow through with our jingle idea for our vaccination van. I found a jingle online that was a cover of "staying alive" that had lyrics about getting vaccinated. We thought this was the perfect song that everyone would recognize and associate with the van. I also enjoyed meeting the artist and hearing the stories behind the images. This was one of my favorite parts of last class. It was so interesting to hear these stories, as sometimes our assumptions were not always right. Despite enjoying the class session, I wish we had more time to get feedback on our projects from Dr.T. I feel like we have heard what our peers suggest, but I really would enjoy some feedback from another perspective. As the class is nearing to an end, and our final presentation is coming up next week I want to make sure my group does everything we can to get a great grade in the class. I am sad the class is coming to an end :(

Now that it is nearing towards the semester, we are ready to present our final project to the class. This upcoming week we will be sharing our prototype and final project with the class and I am very excited! I am a little sad that the year is coming to an end, but I am very much looking forward to my upcoming senior year. My group and I spent the last week meeting outside of class to prepare for our presentation, so we are well prepared. I am a little nervous to be presenting first! But hopefully, we can show everyone that we worked hard and we know anything about our topic that we could. I really enjoyed this course, and I wish there was a way I could take it again! I would love to have know what this course was like before COVID and how meeting the community needs would have been different.
