Volleyball is a worldwide sport where two teams of six players are separated by the net. Each team tries the score the point by getting the ball over the net under certain rules. For an example, the ball should not be passed more than 2 times in one team. This sport is basically divided into indoor competition and beach volleyball, which is also popular.

CI opens a huge opportunity for students to play volleyball in-and-out school. It is divided into middle and upper varsities, and many students participate in this athletics. However, it is not sure that genders are treated equally; there can be gender inequality in volleyball. With an interview from a volleyball upper-school student, we're going to find whether CI volleyball has gender issues or not.

Male
Keywords: Energetic, Active, Athletic
Male sports players in the advertisements and images are usually pictured of them athletically moving. Most of the sports advertisement companies or the audience focus on the sportsman-like moments of the male. They think the male should be muscular, tough, and sharp-minded. Naturally, advertisements and images of male sports players are usually the best energetic moments of the players, like Messi just before shooting a score. The advertisements and images represent male players as an athletic, active, and energetic people.
Female
Keywords: Beauty, Cheerfulness, Jumpiness(positive)
Unlike male, advertisements and images of female sports players are more of their relaxed or beautiful moments than actually playing sports. People, including photographers and the audience, usually set women as being less aggressive and tough than male; some of the adverts even show them as beauty and happiness. Chances are higher for the adverts or images of female players to either be relaxed or being jumpy/delighted. Some people and companies don't focus on what female players are doing; they are sometimes focusing on when do they look attractive. For an example, there are people who watch Women Tennis Competition to see some attractive players, not the game. Female advertisements and images are usually based on their beauty, cheerfulness, or jumpiness.

Some companies pay famous sports players to wear their products and promote people their company names. It is much easier and effective than spreading advertisements around the world, which is harder and sometimes ineffective to the audience who are annoyed to see those promotions.

However, the difference of the highest-paid male and female players is very large. Currently, the male player with highest endorse-paid is Roger Federer, a famous tennis player with 17 grand slams. His endorsement earnings are $60 million a year, with famous companies such as Nike and Benz supporting him. The female player is Maria Sharapova, another famous woman tennis player with 5 grand slams. Her yearly endorsement earnings are $20 million 1/3 of Roger Federer. The endorsement issue is highly likely gender issued since the best male player gets $40 million more than the female, which is a huge gap.
Cite

Tennis is one of the worldwide sports loved by many people. Not only its national game is open to the male, it is also promoting female to come and join, too. However, the amount of salary male and female get is very distant. Currently, the most popular and high-paid male and female tennis players in the world are A. Murray and Angelique Kerber. However, Murray(male) earns £20 million a year while Kerber is paid only £1.23 million. The male gets almost 20 times higher than the female. This is a very controversial topic to discuss because the female player gets 20 times lower than male just because she is a different gender.
Cite #1
Cite #2

In the interviews, it is researched that the female athletes get more sexist questions than male. Most of the male sportsmen are expected and questioned about their game performances, their efforts, and all other athletic questions. However, female gets more of their appearances and other inappropriate requests such as giving the audience a twirl. As you see, the interviewers are more interested in male players commenting on their sports. They are less interested in women performances and sometimes focus on off-topics especially their attractiveness. Most of the interviews settle that male athletes are fit and female are good-looking.
Cite #1
Cite #2

The middle varsity has no tryouts, so there can be more male players in Middle School Volleyball Team if males participate more than female. The Upper School is different. Unlike Middle School, participants have to take tryouts, and only 12 people are accepted in the team. That way, even though the number of female participants is lower than the male, they can join the team if they perform better than the opposite gender.
--> Upper School gives more advantages to female players if performing better than the others.

Most of the audience are more interested in male sports competition than female because they have stereotypes that male perform better than female generally at all sports, including volleyball. The reason is because they viewed more successful male sports competitions than female like people watching NBA way more than WNBA. However, instead of facing this kind of stereotype, it is suspicious that the volleyball manager organizes girl competitions first and then boys to promote more audience. The male competition seems to be used as a climax so more audience will come or they have to watch the girl competitions for the next one.

In order to stop people from being only focused on CI male volleyball competition, CI should accomplish to Increase the Popularity of Girl Volleyball Sports Competition.
How:
Change the Stereotypes of the Audience
The reason of the people being more engaged with male volleyball than female is because they think that males are better at being athletic, energetic, and competitive than females so their games are more thrilling to watch. We have to open more opportunities for the CI female volleyball competition to perform in front of the huge audience so some of them can be interested in women games, too. By performing publicly some audience can change their stereotypes of female games being less fierce and not being entertained compared to males; they have to notice that girls can perform the same or even better than boys. That way coaches and the audience doesn't matter which gender plays the game first the second because girl competitions are as popular as the male ones.
