Chapter Summary

In this chapter, Randy encourages readers to dream without limits. He believes that big dreams help people grow, even if those dreams don’t always come true. He shares how chasing his own childhood dreams gave his life direction and purpose. This life lesson is important because it reminds us not to shrink ourselves or settle; it’s okay to reach high and try for more.

Favorite Quote:

“Give yourself permission to dream. Fuel your kids' dreams, too" (Page 133).

I picked this quote because it’s really motivating. It makes me feel like even if a goal feels far away, it’s still worth chasing.

Discussion Questions:

What’s a “big dream” you’ve had that people thought was unrealistic?

Do you think it’s more important to be practical or to dream big? Why?

How do big dreams help shape your future, even if you don’t reach them?

Chapter Summary

Randy explains that being “earnest” means being sincere and real, while being “hip” often means trying too hard to be cool. He says our culture can sometimes reward the wrong things, like sarcasm or fakeness, instead of honesty. He argues that being genuine helps people trust you and builds better relationships. This life lesson is important because it teaches us to value who we really are instead of pretending to be something we’re not.

Favorite Quote:

“I'll take an earnest person over a hip person every time, because hip is short term. Earnest is long term" (Page 133).

I chose this quote because it’s a good reminder to be yourself. Being “hip” doesn’t matter in the long run if you’re not being true to yourself.

Discussion Questions:

Why do you think people sometimes hide their true selves to seem “cool”?

Who do you know that is truly earnest? What makes them that way?

Do you agree with Randy that it’s better to be real than to be trendy?

If you are accepting more hours of work you will easily be learning more at the same time. In conclusion, working as hard as you can will put you in positions you have never been in.

Favorite Quote

“As I see it, if you work more hours than somebody else, during those hours you learn more about your craft.” pg. 156

The reason I chose this quote is because I believe that people look at over time as more money.

Chapter Summary

-This chapter is about how working with others comes with a lot of benefits to it. It is a vital and necessary skill in both the work world and in families. As a way to teach this Randy would put his students into teams to work on projects together. Randy gave many tips on why he thinks that working in groups is better. Meeting people properly, finding things in common, try for optimal meeting conditions , let everyone talk, check egos at the door, praise each other and much more.

-This life lesson is important because of all of the new people you will find that you have a lot in common, and learning to work with others is so important, especially when the group can all give great ideas and work together.

Favorite Quote:

"Find something nice to say, even if it's a stretch. The worst ideas can have silver linings if you look hard enough". (Pg, 143)

I picked this quote because I think that everyone should have this mindset.
