After he murdered Day's mother (an Innocent citizen) she can no longer have feelings for him. This shows how much our actions can affect other's thoughts about us.

“‘Few people ever kill for the right reasons, June,’ he said after a long silence. ‘Most do it for the wrong reasons. I just hope you never have to be in either category.”’ (250)

Out of all the characters in this book, Metias has to be my favorite. His words consistently ring true to me and if we were going to map out Legend through the Hero’s Journey, I would have to say he is the mentor. Out of all this meaningful statements, this one is the most prominent to me. Metias, even though he is a soldier does not believe in manslaughter. Most killings are not for the right reasons. They are done out of hate for one another. We need to stop these killings for all they bring is sadness and more hate into this world. And the last thing we need right now is more hate.
