The term "genocide" did not exist before 1944. It is a very specific term, referring to violent crimes committed against groups with the intent to destroy the existence of the group. he Ottoman Empire, also historically known in Western Europe as the Turkish Empire or simply Turkey.
In 1915, there were 2 million Armenians living in the declining Ottoman Empire. But under the cover of World War I, the Turkish government systematically destroyed 1.5 million people in attempts to unify all of the Turkish people by creating a new empire with one language and one religion. The Armenian Genocide was centrally planned and administered by the Turkish government against the entire Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire. It was carried out during W.W.I between the years 1915 and 1918. Talat Pasha was one of the leaders of the Young Turks and a leading member of Sublime Porte. "the victims of this Armenian genocide were the Turkish community"

According to the Armenian genocide smith jean states that, 'The Ottoman Empire existed in the Balkan region of the Middle East from 1300-1923. During the time of the genocide, the Ottoman Empire bordered Bulgaria and Greece in the west, the Mediterranean Sea in the south and southwest, the Black Sea in the north, Iraq and Syria in the southwest, and the Russian empire in the east and northeast." This explains that the ottoman empire had been heavily involved.

According to the Armenian genocide smith jean states that, "The resulting persecutions carried out by the Turkish troops and Kurdish tribes men killed thousands of Armenians." This tells us that Turkish troops and Kurdish tribes had killed thousand of Armenians that were involved in this genocide.

According to Britannica school they show that, "The Armenian Genocide laid the ground for the more-homogeneous nation-state that eventually became the Republic of Turkey. By the end of the war, more than 90 percent of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were gone" This shows that almost the entire ottoman population was wiped out making it a big deal.
