Hello guys my name is Rubiel Escalante and this semester I am apart of the sociology class. One concept that stood out for me was the Marxist perspective. I googled who he was and found out that Karl Marx was a German Philosopher , economist, historian socialist revolutionary . Marxism originated in the 19th century. I learnt that Marxism examines how capitalism affects labour and that a revolution should occur to overturn capitalism in favor of communism. Marx believed that there should be no social classes everybody should all be on the same level. He believed the rich were exploiting the poor working people and the main reason society exist is because the workers are the ones holding up their pyramid of social classes.
In quote Of Karl Marx said " Money is the universal self constituted value of all things. Hence it has robbed the world of its proper value." Without daily workers our life would be so much harder and Karl wanted fairness he wanted no social class so that everybody can be on the same level. He was against communism because the rich would make the less fortunate believe that they are doing them a favor by giving them jobs but in reality it was only to exploit the poor working people. In the pyramid of classes we see the governing people at the top followed by Religion the pope after this comes the soldiers the army's then comes the rich people who owns all the companies and factories and last the people holding them all up are the poor peasants who are tricked into being exploited. Education is very important and he believed that was necessary to over come this and to abolish religion.

“Strength lies in the differences and not the similarities”
Culture is such a beautiful thing it might divide us into groups but in the end it all comes back as one. Each culture is unique in its own way and form. What we learn at home as children and turn into adults we tend to pass down to our kids and the kids grow up and pass it down to their kids. It’s basically the way of life. Religion beliefs language arts are all important keys that make up a culture. All in all it’s just a system of belief and many of us have different beliefs and cultures But in the end it brings us together as one people. It would be so boring to live in a society where every one is the same. We should all know atleast something about our culture. “ a people

As we all go through life we each have a role to play. Cultural roles, social differentiation gender roles. Like what was said in class a female a woman a girl should not be smoking or drinking or using obscene language because to society it is deemed as wrong. Like it’s something only expected from males. The males are the providers, and the women should stay home and cook take care of the kids and have the clothes and home clean. Times are quickly changing women are becoming powerful and demanding equality. The old is now being left behind and a new era arises. “ I think we’re struggling with trying to redefine various positions at this point in history. To allow freedom for men, freedom for women freedom for those sharply defined gender roles.”

“Symbolic interactionism is a theory that uses everyday interactions of individuals to explain society as a whole. Symbolic interactionism examines stratification from a micro-level perspective.”This is saying that it is what we do that shows who we are. They are 3 dimensions in which stratification occurs economic class, social status and social power.

People tend to choose what’s available and often idealize as to what they struggle for. Whatever you buy makes a statement like said in class even at thrift stores or ten cents like we call them we tend to find clothes of brand names and this would be known as conspicuous consumption. The type of things we buy the type of car we drive which are mainly material things. Also social stratification is not only based on economic and social inequality but also on Beliefs. What we believe in also puts us in a hierarchy.

Power and authority is seen in our daily lives. Authority is classified into three different types which are traditional authority , rational legal authority and charismatic authority. People tend to abuse power making others feel less because they are so high on what we would say riding a “high horse”. This happens at work the bosses because of their position undermines the workers with lower position. I mean not all the time but because of authority and power that quickly changes the setting. Some people get too power hungry. They would do anything and everything to gain a powerful name. It’s truly how you use power because I believe having authority and power and using it a positive way can help others and make the world a better place. Use your platform to change the world not only to boss people around or think your better than anyone. I think even when you are so high up you should be humble because you never know when it will be some one else’s turn to be in power over you.
