An example for a metaphor is in the story Borders. "If she wasn't spreading jelly on the truth, she was happy." pg.133

Personification

Imagery was shown in the story The necklace when "Two large tears ran slowly down the corners of her eyes towards the corners of her mouth." When this happened, i could picture her tears in my head. pg.2

Motivation was shown in the short story To Build a Fire. He wasn't prepared for the cold weather and he froze so much his face was freezing but that didn't stop him. He kept trying to build a fire and when there was no success he kept going.

 Situational Irony is when something you don't expect to happens ends up happening.

Situational irony was shown in the story Never stop on the motorway. She thought someone was following her but it turned out they were trying to help her as there was someone in her car.

An example of a plot is in the story fatty legs. Fatty legs is a story that the author tells about her experience at Residential school. Olemaun wanted to go to school to learn how to read but ended up getting stripped from her culture, bullied, and facing some terrible experiences.

Point of View

The point of view in the story the necklace is an observers point of view, also known as the other.

Allusion

The story borders is referring to the ignorance of Canadians and americans to the indigenous peoples and their heritage. The woman is a blackfoot, which is how she was born, and was declined her rights to enter another country because the americans consider all aboriginals Canadians although they were there first.

Atmosphere

Atmosphere means the feeling, emotion, or mood a writer uses towards a reader through the description of settings and objects.

In the story To build a Fire Atmosphere was shown. The story showed a very sad, cold and depressing atmosphere and the more it went on the worse it got. The man kept failing to build a fire and was getting colder and colder. It was like I could almost feel him suffering as I watched it.

Character

A character is shown in the story The Necklace. " She was one of those pretty and charming girls born." pg.1 first paragraph. In this story, she was a round character. At the start of the story, she is poor and depressed then later on becomes happy and wealthy.

In the story The Necklace, the title symbolizes the wealth that she wishes to posses and the life she wants to live.

Flashback

In the story borders, there is a flashback where the boys sister, Laetitia, was mad at her brother for saying she wanted to move away and it tells that she did. It relates to the present story because they are going to visit her throughout the pages.

Suspense is a intense feeling that an audience goes through while waiting for the outcome of certain events. It leaves the reader holding their breath and wanting more information.

An example of suspense is in the story Never Stop on the Motorway was shown when there was a car following her on the motorway. She was trying to get away and when she thought she finally did, the man caught up to her again.
