Blackett agreed to manslaughter because he was scared that he would be charged with second degree murder. Smith testified that she had died from strangulation and blunt force. O'Neil received a 4.5 year sentence for manslaughter but only served 3.5 because he was already being held for 15 months in pre-trial custody. Having the courts clear his name and for the public to finally know he did not kill Tamara Thomas. 

My feelings on compensation are if I was to server any jail or prison time for a crime I did not commit, YES I would want a financial payout because it is life that I have lost on the courts error not mine. The second most surprising thing is after all the life destruction he has caused over his term as a pathologist  he paid a 3500 dollar fine and lives comfortably in Vancouver.

Maliciously providing incorrect findings sending innocent people to jail for crimes they never committed continuously
