outside of class some people have compared the
shutdown during the pandemic to being incarcerated/in
prison. Today we are going to learn about someone that
was incarcerated for 27 years. Today We are going to learn about another important
Black History Individual. Tell me in the Chat if anyone
has heard of Nelson Mandela. How about the term
apartheid?
Nelson Mandela lived in South Africa during a time
when apartheid existed. In apartheid, blacks and whites
had to live separate lives, similar in some ways to
segregation in the US. Under apartheid, blacks did not
have equal access to adequate health care or education
and were not allowed to vote. Mandela joined a
political movement to work to end apartheid. As a
result, the people in power sent Mandela to jail for 27
years as a political prisoner.

To keep his mind sharp and body strong despite his
terrible ordeal, Mandela would run in place in his cell. 
Let's take a look at how much room he had in his cell.
How many square meters was the floor area of his jail

There is a lot of open interpretation as to how to conceptualize the size of the space.
