Kids should have smartphones because it is easy to contact people. The text supports this by saying "There are a few reasons that kids should have smartphones. First, phones allow parents to get in touch with their kids easily." This is 100 percent true. if you own a smartphone and say it doesn't make some aspects of your life easier then you are lying. Another piece of evidence the text provides is when it says "My opinion is that you can have a smartphone, but too much time on it isn’t good." This shows that smartphones need to be limited but they can be used appropriately and for good things. So I think kids should have smartphones as long as they are monitored, safe, and responsible.

I don't think kids should have SMART phones or iPhones but there are plenty of alternatives that could only make an emergency call or a call to the parents. I think this is because kids under the age of 13 should not have access to social media or hazardous internet sites. Kids should also get out and have fun outside as my little brother says "Go and touch some grass" Sure kids can play video games and watch TV no matter what age but I don't think a Smart, Apple, Cell, Phone is needed at a young age. Phones are even risky to have as a teen even an adult but as you get older you become more caucus (I hope) of what you do on your phone. That is why I think kids shouldn't have smart phones.

I think kids should have smartphones because phones can be used to call the police during an emergency or their parents for other important events if their parents aren't near the child. However, it does depend on the age of the child and how much of the screen time they are getting. "First, phones allow parents to get in touch with their kids easily. Parents can see their kids’ location and pick them up if there’s an emergency. Second is education. An app like Duolingo helps kids learn Spanish and other languages. YouTube can also be a learning tool when it’s used appropriately." -John Garofalo. This quote relates to my claim because it shows how having a smartphone can be useful for the child, and it shows how having a controlled amount of phone usage is safe for the student.

I think kids should have phones to keep in touch with others like family members, and old friends, and to contact emergency numbers like 911. A quote from the article states: "Phones allow parents to get in touch with their kids easily. Parents can see their kids’ location and pick them up if there’s an emergency," and "Smartphones help kids communicate with friends. If you move away, you can still stay in touch," to rebuttal some kids can be irresponsible when they're young and may get addicted easily since they are younger so I do think that some kids should not have phones maybe at the age of 9-10 or the time you become a tween since a lot of people have started to mature at this age. Also, I think some restrictions should be set like going on social media because the internet can be a little twisted so you might wanna set restrictions like that. Too many restrictions on the other hand may make the child not want to use the phone because let's say you can only text on your phone 2 hours a day unless it's past 6 pm that's kind of dumb because the time is somewhat short on the other hand if you gave them a little bit more time it might make the experience more enjoyable.

I think kids 11 and older should have phones because by that age some parents may let you go to the beach with you and your friend or go shopping alone so you need to be able to check in. But kids 10 and under have many ways to talk to your parents and say you are at school use the school phone. you want to be a kid for as long as possibly because wants your grow up and adult there isn't time for games you have big responsive. But obviously kids get bored and say I wanna watch peppe pig!! so you will take an older sister phone or moms phone.

The article "Should Kids Have Smartphones?" states, "Second is education. An app like Duolingo helps kids learn Spanish and other languages. I wouldn't want my kid to make a childhood friend, and then not be able to talk to them again.

But it also depends on how they are using it and how much screen time they are getting. If they are using it for bad use like inappropriate texts, bullying others, cyberbullying. Then the parents should teach them a lesson and take it away for a while. the article states that being glued to a phone can distract them from school, sports, clubs, and homework, and may not want to spend time with family and friends which can distract them from observing their surroundings. From all this information I say that if the kid could use it wisely then yes they can use the phone if not then no.

Kids should have phones depending on the age. because if they are 10-17 years old they are still kids but are more mature they would be at places by themselves more often so a phone is necessary for emergencies. but any age under 10 is too young for a phone and it isn't really necessary And they could be more tempted to be on their phones then hanging out with friends, family, and playing sports. And they are mature enough and aren't really aware that spam calls are dangerous and could give the spammer personal information.

Yes, I think kids should have friends. Google says "In unforeseen circumstances, such as accidents, weather changes, or running late, having a cell phone allows children to reach out for help promptly." Kids having phones makes it safer for them to go outside alone or go somewhere in case of health issues to get in contact with 911 or to have access to talking to their parents. I don't think children should have social media until 16 because it pushes children into a place of bullying and social media tends to worsen people's mood.

Personally, I believe that kids should have smartphones. However, there are a few exceptions, I believe that they should be responsible, and they shouldn't always be hooked on the phone.

A Quote from the article states that, "Phones allow parents to get in touch with their kids easily. Parents can see their kids location and pick them up." This can be extremely useful if the child is in a dangerous situation, and they need to contact their parents, or if they wanted to text their parents to let them know something, they can do that. Phones can be extremely benefitical because you can stay in touch with people that might either move away or you can't talk to them much. Parents can text their kids if they need something their kids need to do or to remind them.

Kids who are addicted to smartphones usually don't have parents that try to at least limit their screen time or try to make them do something else. The parents need to make sure that the kid doesn't get addicted to his phone. However, a kid should be able to rely on his phone incase of an emergency or needing anything.

I think that kids should be able to have cell phones because its able to help them keep in contact with friends and family In case of an emergency BUT I feel that not only does it depend on their age but also their maturity and if they need parental locks on their phone or whatever device their using. Its also important the parents are able to know and trust that their child is responsible with their access to the internet and having a phone by using it appropriately, not using it to harm others and what not. By Alina Hussian a 10 year old she says " My opinion is that you can have a smartphone, but too much time on it isn’t good. Smartphones can provide entertainment, which we need. But this can be addicting." which i agree with. another claim I have is in the article is 10 year old Logan saying "And then there’s the remedy for boredom: Kids could use their phones for games and other entertainment. Using smartphones lets us stay safe, communicate with friends, and have fun." So in my reasoning I say yes to kids having phones, but only if they have rules set in place, a cellphone is good for a child to call their parents or family in an emergency, if their friends maybe move schools or wanna hang outside of school then they'll be able to talk and communicate. Its also a good way to have easy access to entertainment, but shouldn't be used for inappropriate behavior or to harm others.

claim- Yes I believe that kids should have phones. I believe that because if they can be responsible there's isn't a reason for them not to. In paragraph 13 and the text states "The most important one is emergencies. Kids can call for help. Or parents can track kids by phone." This is very important because if something were to happen they wouldn't be able to contact anyone with no phone or restrictions. I'm pretty sure the parent wouldn't forgive themselves. Also in paragraph number "If you move away, you can still stay in touch. This happened to me when I changed schools. Now I can talk to my old friends while I make new ones at my new school." This shows that communication with others is important because you don't want them to be anti social and close off everyone.

In my opinion, I think that kids should not have smartphones. I believe that cell phones can be beneficial and helpful at the same time. For example, they can help kids get a hold of their parents and call for safety if something were to go wrong. But I think that parents should monitor their phones. However in the article it says having a phone can ruined your health and can give you a headache. Another example is that kids can cyberbully through their phones without their parents knowing. Also phones are a distraction because it can take them away from doing their actual school work and playing outside. In conclusion I think that kids should not have smartphones because the negatives outweigh the positives.

I think kids should have smart phones in case for emergencies in school or real life situations. It can be beneficial for learning and teaching things for study wise or homework wise. for example they can ask a friend for help during homework by calling or texting. They could also use apps for studying or asking questions if Google isn't doing a good job. If kids get into trouble or are in trouble they can call the cops their parents, etc. Parents can also track their kids on life 360 or other apps which can help kids stay out of trouble or from going places they shouldn't. I think kids should get a phone between the ages 9-12 years old since that's I think is the appropriate age amount for a child to own a phone to contact a parent or police if something bad happens to them and because its a good way for them to learn responsibility.

Yes, I think kids should have smartphones. According to paragraph 9, it claims, "Smartphones can provide entertainment, which we need. But it can also be addicting." This is important because although kids should have smartphones, they should also limit how much time they can spend on them so they won't get addicted. In paragraph 10, it states, "But if there's an emergency, a smartphone lets you call your parents or the authorities." Also, kids could use their smartphones in case of an emergency, or to contact someone when they need help. Which is why I think kids should have smartphones.

I am not on any side, I'm more toward the middle. I think there are pros and cons of having a phone at such a young age. It can cause very bad addictions, bad depression within the child, and the child's physical/mental health, as stated in paragraph 3. I think this because it is fine and fun to play games, talk to friends, etc... But, there is bad stuff out there on websites and apps that kids as young as they are should not watch or listen to. it is also not safe because strangers will talk to those little kids online and try to meet up with them which is a very bad safety hazard.
