Electoral colleges have more power than the people and their vote can overlook the people’s vote. States with larger populations can vote for one candidate while the electoral colleges can vote for another and the electoral colleges vote counts more so their candidate would receive the vote. We do not live in a democracy because of the in-balance of power between the people and electoral colleges.

Even though voter ID are there to stop fraud and are there to serve as proof for the vote and test if it's legitimate, it can easily limit other people on their ability to vote, as we don't know who was exactly given an ID and who was. It can also be a cause for discrimination and racism and not allowing certain people to vote which proves that we don't live in a democracy from my understanding of voter ID laws. Gerrymandering is a way to manipulate people's votes and alter them so other candidates can win. It can also be paid by different parties so they win. It shows that we aren't exactly "free" to vote or have much freedom as our votes can essentially be changed just for the sake of another party and so they can win. This actually limits our ability to vote. We don't live in a democracy if Gerrymandering is happening.

Even if everyone wants to prove that we do infact live in one. Based on the unit concepst and discussions, we don't. There's things such as Gerrymandering, Voter ID laws, Voter surpression, which all restrict ability to vote. People claim we're free but are we really free? We can vote but due to Gerrymandering, our votes can be altered with money, just pay someone and all those votes are changed. It silences those who want to vote and makes another party win. Voter ID laws can also restrict democracy and ability to vote as people can manipulate this law and use it as a form of discrimination and not allow them to vote. These voter ID laws can easily restrict people's right to vote. Voter suppression is literally an example of this, it discriminates people easily and don't allow them to vote. These can majorly affect certain groups as they're denied the ability to vote at all just because their ethnicity, social status and other factors. These things are things that restrict democracy and freedom, we don't really live in a democracy since these things restrict us. We don't live in a democracy based on unit concepts and class discussions.

When laws or practices, such as strict voter ID requirements or purging voter rolls, disproportionately affect communities, it raises concerns about whether all citizens are truly being treated equally in the political process.

We do not live in a democracy based on our concepts and class discussions. One reason is because gerrymandering, and electoral college both try to manipulate people’s decision to vote. Gerrymandering manipulates peoples votes, so they can get the candidate they want to win. Electoral College isn’t fair because they ignore peoples opinions and the President isn’t elected by citizens they are elected by electoral votes which mean other people are voting for the president. All these reasons show why we dont live in a democracy.

While the U.S. operates as a representative democracy, the Electoral College adds a part that restricts the direct influence of the popular vote. The U.S. Electoral College system complicates the concept of direct democracy because although citizens elect presidential candidates, the outcome ultimately depends on the electors selected by each state. Which can lead to a president winning without the participation of the popular vote.

Gerrymandering is the pinnacle example of corruption spread through our governing system. A ploy as such would allow manipulations of the rules and a defiance against the basic concept of democracy. That being an unequal representation of the people. Government officials could willfully twist the voting count to fall in their favor by decreasing the influence of the number of votes and divert it to another, rather than allowing the people to elect their own choice. Thus making it a non-democracy due to unlawful use of power to suppress/limit the peoples vote.

I think this because in this system, when people vote for president they aren’t directly choosing the candidate. Instead they are voting for electors who will pick the president later. This means that sometimes a candidate can win even if they don’t get the most votes from people. It feels unfair because it seems like not everyone’s voice counts equally. In a real democracy, every vote should count equally and everyone should have a direct say in who leads them.

Instead of people directly choosing the president, they vote for electors who represent their specific state. These electors then vote for the president, which can sometimes mean that the candidate with fewest votes still might win. This system helps balance the power between bigger and smaller states, but some people may argue it doesn’t always reflect on what most people would have wanted .

The Electoral College basically overpowers the people's vote, so it doesn't matter how many votes a candidate gets, the Electoral College will decide who is president. A prime example of this is the 2016 presidential election as Hilary Clinton won the popular by 2.9 million votes, but Donald J Trump won the Electoral vote by 77 votes, ultimately leading him to win presidency.

Based on all this information from articles and what each of them. I can see that we don’t live a in a Democracy. Although we live in a country with laws to keep us in stable. Some of these movements and acts can seem to show a lack of fairness. We do have rights and sayings of amendments. These other acts like Gerrymandering, Voter Suppression or Voter ID Laws show some kind of injustice with people who want to live at peace. Therefore, we see that these can be strict to people’s rights or even freedom because maybe they are discrinatory or even don’t want them to vote based on cultural or background differences.

Voter ID legislation may make the idea of a completely inclusive democracy more difficult to understand. Although the goal of these rules is to stop voter fraud, they can also put up obstacles for some groups, like the elderly, persons of color, and those with low incomes, who could have trouble getting the necessary identity. The idea that all eligible individuals should have equal access to the voting booth in a democracy may be compromised by this. Voter ID legislation can prevent some citizens from fully participating in the democratic process, even though the United States is a representative democracy. I can’t say that we are a true democracy because of this, but we do stick to some democratic principles.

I think so because gerrymandering is like playing a game where the rules are changed to make sure one team always wins. This means that instead of people choosing their leaders fairly, the leaders are picking their voters to make sure they stay in power. This means that not all votes are equal, some are more powerful than others. When gerrymandering happens it shows that our system isn’t as fair as it should be and it doesn’t show what a democracy is all about.

People can live in a democracy by voting, staying informed, engaging in discussions, advocating for issues, contacting their representatives, and getting involved in their communities. It's all about participation and making their voices heard. For example Voter ID laws can impact voter turnout by requiring specific forms of identification to vote. This can potentially deter or prevent some eligible voters, particularly those who may have difficulty obtaining the required ID, such as low-income individuals, the elderly, and minorities. The effect on turnout can vary based on how strict the laws are and the availability of IDs.

Instead of voters selecting their representatives it enables politicians to select their supporters, resulting in elections that do not at all fairly represent the will of the people. Because it can result in unfair elections and unequal political power, this distortion of election results lessens the effectiveness of democratic participation. Due to this gerrymandering undermines the goal of a really democratic government, even though the United States is seen as representative democracy.

It's the idea that although there is a government, the consent of the governed is still needed for the people in power to make important decisions that can heavily impact the peoples lives. A democracy would also need to uphold the rights, freedoms, and liberties of the people, as without them the people lose power in their voice.

We don’t live in a democracy due to all of the shady things that happen in the voting process for elections. For example, voter suppression. This is a direct contradiction in the word democracy as a democracy allows for anyone to get a fair say, while voter suppression, makes sure that a certain group of people cannot vote. Another reason I’d say we are not in a democracy is due to gerrymandering. This doesn’t allow for everyone’s vote to count the same, creating an unfair election.

Gerrymandering, which manipulates district boundaries to favor one political party, undermines fair representation. Voter ID laws can disproportionately affect marginalized communities, restricting their ability to exercise their right to vote. And finally the Electoral College system means that the popular vote doesn't always determine the outcome of presidential elections, which can feel undemocratic to some. These type of voters suppression shows that there is some achievement of a truly representative democracy.

I would say yes we do live in a democracy because even when the United States is structured as a democracy, practices like voter suppression, gerrymandering, voter ID laws, and the Electoral College raise important questions about the fairness and inclusivity of our system. Voter suppression, including measures like reducing early voting or purging voter rolls, disproportionately affects minority groups, limiting their ability to participate in elections. Gerrymandering, where district boundaries are manipulated to favor one political party, distorts the true will of the people and weakens the concept of equal representation. Voter ID laws can create barriers for individuals who lack access to specific forms of identification, often disenfranchising low-income and elderly voters. Lastly, the Electoral College system can override the popular vote, as seen in past presidential elections, where a candidate who did not win the popular vote still became President. So I do believe we do live in a democracy based on what we learned in class

When people vote for a president they are actually voting for electors who then choose the president. This means that sometimes the candidate with the most votes from the people doesn't win if they don't get enough votes from the electors. A democracy is a system of government where everyone has a right to vote and the people decide who they want as a representative. Votes from electoral colleges can overlook votes from larger populations and there is an imbalance of power between electoral college and the people. Voter ID laws prevents a large minority from voting because they do not have citizenship. Gerrymandering is also used to gain an unfair advantage and it groups minority populations so they can manipulate the votes. Voter suppression also removes the right to vote from large groups of people by discouraging them to vote or even flat out refusing to let them register to vote. These tactics make it unfair for a majority of people with less opportunities to vote which shows we do not live in a democracy because not everyone can vote and there is a big power divide.

The way that voting is set up allows the peoples votes to be voided even though it's what the people wanted, if the electoral college thinks differently.

Based on my understanding of Gerrymandering, we do not live in democracy as it unfairly allows for voter 'fraud'. The process of Gerrymandering allows people to be unfairly grouped which leads to unfair representation, again damaging the idea of democracy. But the other main problem with gerrymandering is the ability to bribe the people who make the voter lines as that means a candidate is able to win an election without having to win the people over and can just bribe their way to victory.

Although all citizens have the right to vote and express their opinion, sometimes their votes can be manipulated, such as Gerrymandering, which manipulates elections, making some candidates benefit without people realizing it.

No, voting suppression prevents us from living in a democracy to its full meaning. The idea of equal representation is compromised by voter suppression tactics such as strict identification requirements, voter roll purges, and restricted voting opportunities in unrepresentative areas. Certain groups suffer the most by these strategies, which limit their ability to engage in the democratic process. All eligible citizens should have equal and unlimited access to the voting booth in order for a democracy to work as it is intended.

Based on our unit concepts and class discussions, I believe we don’t live in a democracy. I believe we don’t because of several issues. First, Voter ID Laws make it hard for some people to vote. These laws require people to show special identification, which not everyone has. This will keep many eligible voters from casting their ballots. Second, is gerrymandering. The government draws voting district lines in a way that helps one political party win more often. This means some votes count more than others, which isn’t fair. Third is voter suppression, which involves actions that make it harder for certain groups, mainly minorities, to vote. Lastly, there’s electoral college. Instead of voting directly for the president, people vote for electors who then choose the president. All these issues highlight that our electoral system is not as fair or democratic as it should be. These issues create obstacles that stop many people from having their voices heard and make it seem like every vote counts the same. To really have a democracy, we need to fix these problems so that everyone can take part in making decisions about their government and community.

While the votes of the people aren't completely responsible for the final outcome, they still have a say in the matter.

The electoral college is a system in the U.S where voters choose electors who then select the president. This means that, even if a candidate wins the popular vote in a state, they might not win the election if they don't get enough Electoral voters. Some argue this system isn't fully democratic because it doesn't always reflect the will of the people. For example, a candidate can win the popular vote but lose the election. While it's still a form of democracy, it's not a perfect reflection of direct majority rule.

No, the US does not operate as a true democracy in its entirety. Equal involvement is severely restricted, despite the fact that it is a representative democracy in which voters choose representatives to act on their behalf. The idea of fair representation is weakened by gerrymandering, voter suppression, and campaign funding laws that permit a disproportionate amount of influence from powerful people and businesses. A presidential election's result may also differ from the popular vote due to the Electoral College system, further separating the government from the people's choice. These elements draw attention to the difference between the American political system and the idea of a true democracy. A system where each citizen's voice is equally heard and respected is essential for true democracy.

We don’t live in a democracy because if we are being honest we have dragged ourselves into a deep pit, that’s now one can’t get out of. the presidents are making decisions that don’t affects us positively and we are doing nothing about it. we do live in a democracy because we are literally the once’s who voted for said president to be the one who “rules” us.

Some people might disagree but theres things such as gerrymandering, voter id laws, the electoral college, etc that can tell us otherwise. Gerrymandering can easily manipulate our votes with money to let the other candidate win which is unfair and really against the rules. It defeats the whole purpose of voting. Voter ID’s can restrict certain people from voting but i honestly think it’s best for our safety and for fair voting. Yes, it does seem like they wouldn’t want certain people to vote but it’s better to know the person and their background as it could make it unfair. The electoral college allows one candidate to win even if the other had the most popular votes. Things like that could make people think the voting system is not really fair and possibly go against the rules.

There are many violations of our rights when it comes to voting , while in a democracy everybody is allowed to vote and no discrimination is allowed because everybody’s voice is heard no matter what. But due to voter suppression and , gerrymandering and other variables it prevents us to live in a democracy and it makes it harder for everybody to vote and to have a choice.

|꧁Jennifer

Suppressing the ability to vote is a major issue, and it is important to recognize that there are no benefits to doing so. The inequality of excluded groups, such as people of color ,those with low incomes, and those with disabilities, can result from voter suppression laws and practices. They might be viewed negatively since they don't meet the standards for capacity, and their appeal doesn't have no significance for them. Strict suppression measures can lower voter turnout, especially among minority groups. The basic principles of democracy, such as equal entry to the voting and the right to take part in the electoral process, have been weakened by voter suppression.

Gerrymandering happens when political parties or leaders change the boundaries of voting districts to make it easier for their party to win, even if it's not really what the voters want. This can make elections unfair because it gives one party an advantage, even if they don't have the most support from the people.

The U.S. is democratic since citizens are allowed to vote in a bid to choose their leaders. Some rules make the voting unfair. The Electoral College make sures that the winner is not the one with the most votes. Voter ID acts make it hard for some citizens to vote. Gerrymandering changes maps to ensure that some leaders continue to be in power. Voter suppression makes it hard for some people to vote. A real democracy should provide equality to all votes. So yes we do have a democracy and yet it is not always equal.

Since state voters can choose the electoral votes, I believe we do live in a democracy because the electoral college is only used to select presidential candidates or a system of presidential election process, which would mean that the people would want to push for the presidency to be decided.

Voter ID laws raise questions about fair representation since they potentially limit voting rights, particularly for underrepresented groups. Every eligible citizen should have an equal chance to vote in a true democracy, yet low-income and minority voters are disproportionately affected by stringent ID requirements. As a result, these laws erect obstacles that call into question America's general democratic character.

Gerrymandering interferes with fair representation by enabling politicians to redraw district lines in favor of one party. Gerrymandering allows politicians to select their own voters, when in a true democracy, citizens should select their representatives. By decreasing competition and stifling minorities and underrepresented communities, this strategy skews election results and impacts democracy.

we do not live in a democracy based on my understanding of voter suppression. Preventing members of a certain race or group from exercising their right to vote is known as voter suppression. Everyone should be accepted in a democracy, regardless of their race, nationality, skin color, etc. This voting method is not seen as fair or equal. Voting is not available to some groups of individuals. Since other individuals are able to vote and voice their opinions while certain groups are denied the opportunity to do so, this constitutes discrimination against those who are unable to do so.

No, not all of the United States functions as a true democracy. Despite being a representative democracy where voters elect representatives to act on their behalf, there are significant restrictions on equal participation. Gerrymandering, voting suppression, and campaign finance regulations that allow a disproportionate degree of influence from influential individuals and corporations undermine the concept of fair representation. The Electoral College system further distances the government from the people's decision by allowing the outcome of a presidential election to diverge from the public vote. These components highlight how the American political system differs from the concept of a true democracy. True democracy requires a system in which every citizen's voice is equally valued and heard.
