Mercantilism is an economic system where a mother country prospers at the expense of its colonies as evidenced by the Navigation Acts and the smuggling that occurred in the colonies. The Navigation acts prove that England wanted to prosper at the expense of the colonies because, under the Navigation acts, the colonists could only trade with Britain, even though it might be cheaper for the colonists to do business with the French or Dutch. The smuggling serves as evidence that mercantilism only serves the mother country because if the colonies were content, then there would be no smuggling

The Navigation Acts were crucial to the British due to the fact that the colonists would make business only with the British and they would alienate the colonists by making them able to trade with the British only. Making business with only the British due to the Navigation Acts were crucial because the British would apply restrictions for the colonists to only trade with them to have a better economy only for the British. By making the colonists only be able to trade with the British, alienated the colonists because they would have no freedom, no interaction with the rest of the world and were pretty much tied down to certain things they could have.

A(1): the navigation acts were important because they had limited the trading abilities of the colonists preventing them from doing trading businesses with the exception of only trading with the British.
A(2) They had been discriminating the colonists for leaving the mother country, being "failures' if they couldn't make it in Great Britain, along with isolating them from the rest of the world.
C(1): Goods had always arrived first to land in Great Britain, which gave the ability to tax the goods in order to increase the profits made on various goods.
C(2) The Colonists were limited to buy from the British and couldn't make trade with various nations, as Britain only looked to profit off them.
E(1): They were fully aware of smuggling that had took place, along with the fact many officials had been bribed to stay silent. Now that the act was fully in play it had resulted in the limitations of goods, forcing colonists to purchase off the taxed goods from Britain, as G. Britain makes a tidy profit.
E(2): Not many people had the ability to have a good life in Great Britain, but seeing a good chance of having a better life. However those who had stayed had seen this more as an excuse for not being able to make it. Now with the addition of the trade limitations damaging a bit of the colonial economy, being forced to purchase off the pricey British, rather than going into trade with various other European nations like France, Spain, and Netherlands.

The British found the Navigation Acts important because they solely benefited heavily from trading with the colonists, even if the Dutch or French had cheaper items the colonists still had to trade with the British. The colonists felt alienated because they couldn't trade with anyone else at all, so they turned to smuggling to help themselves out.

The Navigation Acts of 1650 were important to the British because they allowed them to profit exponentially from the colonists; the British alienated the colonists because they wanted to use them for their own economic advantage. The Dutch attempted to trade with the colonists, but the British imposed laws that prohibited them to do so. American merchants must ship products exclusively to Britain, even if prices are better somewhere else.
The fact that the British imposed the Navigation Acts to make money out of the colonies shows that it was important to the British for them to maintain their rich lifestyle by any means possible. Because the British imposed the Navigation Acts so strictly explains why colonists were not allowed to trade with other nations (unless they smuggled).
