Joeseph-Maurice Ravel was born in March 7,1875 in Ciboure, France. And died in December 28, 1937 in Paris France. Ravel was a 19th century to early 20th century French composer. His best known works are Boléro and Daphnis et Chloé. His talents in music came to him at an early age. At 14 he became part of the Paris Conservatoire where he stayed there until 1905. There is when he made some of his best known works. which were: "Pavane for a Dead Princess", the "Sonatine for piano", and the "String Quartet". At the Paris Conservatoire he failed three times to win the convented Prix de Rome for composition. Maurice Ravel never married. He served in World War l for a short amount of time as a truck driver near the front. He was discharged from the army in 1917. Ravel visited England to receive a honorary degree of doctor of music from Oxford in 1928. Boléro was invented in that same year. The last few years of Ravel's life were tragic by aphasia. This didn't only prevent him from writing music and notes, but also made him lose the power of speech and that made it impossible for him to even sign his name. They tried an operation on Ravel, they tried to relieve the obstruction of a blood vessel that supplies the brain, it was unsuccessful. Ravel was buried in the cemetery of Levallois. He had lived there before. He is remembered for saying once "The only affair I have ever made, was with music."

Ravel played with the idea of building a composition from a single theme and then grow ito something big by just adding harmony and more instruments.
