         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><em>*this is just a sample of actual composition lessons*</em><br><br><strong>Standard:</strong><br> <br><em>MU:Cr2.1.4.b-</em>  Use standard and/or iconic notation and/or recording technology to document personal rhythmic, melodic and simple harmonic musical ideas. <br><br><strong>Activities:</strong><br><br>-Present question to all students: Do you want to create music to represent something specific or just sound cool?<br><br>-Students choose meter for composition (from previously known meters in music notebook) <br><br>-Some students may want to choose a form, but this is not necessary, and is not included in the final assessment rubric<br><br>-Use rhythm tiles (laminated paper manipulatives) with set rhythm choices (<em>quarter, half, eighth, &amp; sixteenth notes, quarter &amp; half rests</em>) for compositions<br><br>-Explore pitches on ukulele learned in class (<em>C major scale</em>) on instrument as possible choices for compositions<br><br>-Write some ideas on a blank music staff (use as many pages as needed, in pencil) <br><br>-Practice writing notes and rests (if necessary)<br><br>-Complete final project on staff paper (or new technology)</div>]]></description>
