Standard:

MU:Cr2.1.4.b-  Use standard and/or iconic notation and/or recording technology to document personal rhythmic, melodic and simple harmonic musical ideas.

Activities:

-Present question to all students: Do you want to create music to represent something specific or just sound cool?

-Students choose meter for composition (from previously known meters in music notebook)

-Some students may want to choose a form, but this is not necessary, and is not included in the final assessment rubric

-Use rhythm tiles (laminated paper manipulatives) with set rhythm choices (quarter, half, eighth, & sixteenth notes, quarter & half rests) for compositions

-Explore pitches on ukulele learned in class (C major scale) on instrument as possible choices for compositions

-Write some ideas on a blank music staff (use as many pages as needed, in pencil) 

-Practice writing notes and rests (if necessary)
