The institution includes many departments such as; training teachers and In Service Training, Adult education, Culture, Health, Research and Development, Projects, Special Education and Guidance, and Sports departments. In addition, it provides, together with ministry of education and mayor, financial support and investment for the above mentioned institutions and departments. The institution is responsible for 42.744 teachers, 5.000 full time working personnel, 752.030 students, 3.069 primary /secondary schools, in‐service training and adult training centres. The institution creates projects in the local, national and international levels. It is in cooperation with all other local, regional and national institutions since it is a state organization. On international level, our institution has many Comenius, Grundtvig , Leonardo and Youth projects.
The main theme of the Provincial Education Directorate is the students. Both increasing the academic success of the students and also improving their social skills, and to have a better personal development, it is important for them to learn how to learn. Another point is the families of the students. To have better academic success of the students it is obliged to support the families of the students firstly. So, the families having had a better communication with the schools, are the basics of a successful student.
Directorate is also focusing on supporting the teachers for a better qualified training, with better pedagogical methods.
There are always in‐service‐trainings organized for this aim. It is in charge of 1100 schools of both levels of education :• Primary Education : 866 schools• Secondary Education : 234 schools 117 junior high schools,  74 high schools,  43 vocational schools. It covers a large geographical area in the borders of the municipality of Heraklion. It is the biggest school in Crete with 420 students aged from 6-12 (years old) and 50 tutors, teaching various subjects as Greek, English, Art, Drama, Computers, Physical Education and Music.The school applies the Common Reformed Syllabus with a wide range of teaching fields and goals. It has a Music Hall, an Art room, a computer lab and a school library.The pupils come from middle social classes and most parents are freelances or private workers. Our school follows a diversity of educational programmes such as environmental education, health education, circulation awareness, while simultaneously it participates in multiple cultural and theatrical festivals, as well as in school cinema festivals.Educators use visual education to support educational methods, by using images, photographs, plans, and concept maps.Furthermore, computers and Internet are tactically used by students for the learning and consolidation of the basic scientific concepts, especially for exact sciences classes such as Physics, since it's given the opportunity to use special educational packages which suggest the use of simulation, and also interactive applications in a happy and comfortable environment. In this environment learners can act, experiment and control the parameters, to give other solutions and consolidate, experiment the new knowledge. Additionally, we usually use conferences, with companion schools in our effort to exchange experiences, speculations and to develop relationships between the students. Conference gives pleasure to students because they have the opportunity to interact with other students of different schools and learn about their daily and school routine.Educators, who will take part in the procedure, have the necessary skills and expertise which are required for the implementation of such task. They are trained to use computers and other digital technologies in the educational process, and furthermore they've taught, using educational software, such as concept maps, concept visualization (e-book). The supervisor of this task, have attended long seminars about the use of computer for educational purposes. Educators are aware of the traditional educational methods and adapt to new ones, using the appropriate tools and materials which would help students to acquire knowledge within visual technology.
