At times people have discovered places where Gold can be dug out of the ground.  This created a Gold rush.  Many  people went to the same place hoping to find Gold of their own.  This created the Gold rush in North America . It took place in California. The largest gold nugget found in the U.S. weighed 195 pounds; it came from California.



This is the most valuable metal.

By 1849 there were 80,000 Gold seekers called the Forty Niner's. In the area people found nuggets, or chunks of Gold as large as 200 pounds. (75 kilometers) An estimated 100'000 people took part in the Gold rush.

The Forty niner's are important because they helped out California. The Forty niners also later became the name of a football team.

The Californians had settled in California and were living a comfortable success life before the Gold rush. Once the rush started the Californians were treated horribly and everything they had once was taken away.
