         <description><![CDATA[<div>Every member of staff at the Robert Napier School has a responsibility to safeguard all of our students. Our staff attend annual training and CPD workshops to ensure that they are able to respond to and address any safeguarding concerns.<br><br>We also have a dedicated core safeguarding team that work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.          <title>Sexual abuse is unacceptable</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We present whole school assemblies that address the issue of sexual abuse so that students are aware of expected behaviours and they know how to report any concerns that they might have. Parents can also report any concerns that they might have about their own child or other children.<br><br><strong>Anyone wishing to report sexual abuse can:</strong><br>1. Talk to a member of staff at school that they feel comfortable with.<br>2. Phone the NSPCC on 0800 136 663.<br>3. Email the NSPCC on help@nspcc.org.uk</div>]]></description>

         <title>Addressing mental health needs in school is critically important because 1 in 5 children and youth have a diagnosable emotional, behavioural or mental health disorder and 1 in 10 young people have a mental health challenge that is severe enough to impair how they function at home, school or in the community.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Students at the Robert Napier School who suffer from anxiety can:</strong><br>1. Access specialist support with <a href="https://www.kooth.com/">KOOTH</a> via electronic communication.<br>2. Speak to a member of staff that they feel comfortable with.<br>3. Karen Beeney from MIND will be in school 3 days a week to support students with any mental health issues.<br><br><strong>We recognise that this has been a difficult time for parents too, and if you feel worried about your mental well-being, you can also access help with the following options:</strong><br>1. Self-refer yourself or your child to your GP.<br>2. Talk to a counsellor.<br>3. Arrange support for stress, anxiety or repression via Talking Therapies, a service available on the NHS.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Identifying signs that young people may be a victim of grooming:</strong><br>1. A young person that has additional money or items not provided by their parents/carers.<br>2. Secretive/ changes in behaviours that the young person normally shows.<br>3. Becoming exceptionally possessive about their phones.<br>4. Sudden and unexpected likenesses or truancies from school.<br>5. Changes in friendship groups.<br>6. Self-isolation from family members.<br>7. Going missing.<br>8. Staying out late at night.<br><br>What to do if you are concerned about being groomed or that someone else is being groomed:<br>1. Call social services for advice 01634 355726.<br>2. Call the police for advice on 101.<br>3. Be aware of social media conversations that your child is having.<br>4. We have stressed to our students the message of never meet strangers that they may have chatted to online. We cannot stress enough how important it is, as parents that you are aware of your child's online activities and their digital footprint.          <title>Concerns around vaping</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The law states that it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to use a vape. For more information about this, please click on the following link: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/new-rules-about-tobacco-e-cigarettes-and-smoking-1-october-2015/new-rules-about-tobacco-e-cigarettes-and-smoking-1-october-2015">Rules about tobacco, e-cigarettes and smoking</a>.<br>Please be aware that any vaping equipment or vaping liquids are banned items and if students have these on their person, they will be confiscated and parents will be contacted. Our assigned police officer (PC R Williams) will be made aware.<br><br>We have concerns that some shops in the local area are selling vapes to our students. We are even more concerned that some of these shops are selling 'under the counter' vapes. Students that have used these have required hospital treatment. The police are currently investigating these concerns.</div>]]></description>
