There are more than 11 million Mexican American immigrants in the United States who are not being treated as equals whether they are citizens or not. Many of these men and women, once in the United States, don’t have a home to go to, don’t have food to eat, don’t have enough money to afford the common necessities that the average white Americans have. They often lack transportation, education, and health care. These factors make it extremely hard for most Mexican-Americans to get a job so that they can afford an education, and make enough money to afford a house, food, and clothes. The current unemployment rate of Mexican Americans is 16.3 percent, compared to the overall U.S. unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. Fewer Mexican immigrants have health insurance compared to immigrants from other countries and people born in the United States. 37 percent of Mexican immigrants are uninsured, but just 20 percent of other immigrants are uninsured and just 7 percent of native-born people are uninsured. Approximately 21 percent of Mexican immigrants live in poverty compared to 14 percent of other immigrants and 9 percent of native-born Americans. Mexicans are discriminated against and do not have the opportunities to succeed that most white Americans have. Over (insert amount of Mexicans coming over border yearly) Mexican immigrants cross the border each year.

Hi, my name is Miguel Martinez I am from Agua Prieta Mexico and am twelve years old. I and my family have been trying to cross the border for my dad to start a new life forever. It’s been hard trying to get a green card and a visa, but despite the hardships, we have almost gotten there. As I and my four sisters get into the car to cross the border, a guard stops us and asks us to get out of the car. Some guards take me and my sisters away and say we will only have to wait here a while but when I turn around I see my mom and dad in handcuffs. I then realize the same thing is happening to us that is happening to the rest of the children getting across the border. We are being taken away from our families and brought into shelters in America just because we are Hispanics. I thought I would never see my parents again and to this day I haven't.

Mexican immigrants who live in poverty need more welfare services. In 2014 63 percent of households headed by a non-citizen relied on some form of welfare. Despite the people who discriminate against the Mexican immigrants, there are good people who try to help them. Organizations from around the country, such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Legal Aid Justice Center, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, and Hispanic Federation, just to name a few, have been focused on this issue. They help to provide shelter, food and clothing, legal assistance, healthcare, and job training for unemployed Mexican Americans and the ones who do not make enough money. But there are plenty of people wary about the illegal immigrants coming into our nation. This can create an illusion that all Mexican immigrants are illegal immigrants. You can't blame some of these people. In 2016 over 45 percent of Mexican immigrants were in the United States illegally. Many people believe that lots of these immigrants come over with drugs, weapons, and other illegal items that are banned in the United States. This creates a need for higher border security around cities on the Mexican and American border and has led to the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy which means they will prosecute any Mexican who crosses the border illegally. This has led to the separation of families at the border, where around 3,000 children were taken away from parents and kept in very bad conditions.

Immigrants move to other countries for better jobs and to escape dangerous situations. If America doesn’t provide equal opportunities for Mexican immigrants, what are they going to do? Well, America isn't the only country Mexicans can immigrate to. There are other places in Europe and South America they go to as well. The big four are Canada, Germany, Spain, and Guatemala. These countries are Mexican immigration hotspots as well because of their less strict border laws making it easier for illegal and legal immigrants to cross over. These immigration habits are supported by Mexico because it can help their economy grow. The money made in each of these countries is given back to the families from the foreign workers.

There are plenty of Organizations that are helping these immigrants in America. A perfect example of one is MALDEF. This organization supports the rights of all Latino-Americans especially Mexicans. The next organization is LAJC. They fight to help individual clients with their legal issues and promote reforms against abuse. Another great organization is RAICES.

They provide free and low cost legal services to Hispanic immigrants. The last organization is the Hispanic Federation. They do work in the areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment. All of these organizations make easier for the average Mexican immigrant to have a safe and happy life here in the USA.
