In the story, "The Cask of Amontillado," by Edger Allen Poe, its setting takes place sometime in the eighteenth century in Italy. It also takes place in Venice during carnival season. We are introduced to two men named Fortunato and Montresor. Apparently they are both friends, but Montresor plans to kill Fortunato because he says that Fortunato went too far by insulting him. However Montresor wants Fortunato to feel the pain that he bestowed upon him and he says that in order for his plan to fully satisfy his urge of revenge, he must successfully execute his plan without being caught.

"A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally undressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong." (pg. 212) This quote is significant, because it hints at what Montresor is thinking and what Montresor wants: revenge. It is also significant because it shows how Montresor is a unreliable narrator for all he keeps thinking upon wanting his revenge and how he is going to achieve it.

" It was dusk, one evening during the supreme madness of the carnival season, that I encountered my friend. He accosted me with excessive warmth, for he had been drinking much." (pg. 212) This quote is significant to the story because the carnival season represents happiness and freedom. But unfortunately for Fortunato, it's the complete opposite for him. It is also significant because the carnival is the perfect time for Montresor to take revenge on Fortunato because of all the loud noises above them that is happening

Symbol

One potential symbol in the exposition is Montresor's coat of arms which is a huge golden foot with the foot crushing a snake with the snake's fangs biting in the heel in a blue background. This is important and symbolic toward the story, because it represents Montresor's motive to get revenge on Fortunato. As well as the theme of the story to punish the wrongdoer and he has punished you; like with the foot crushing the snake while the snake is biting its fangs into the foot.

I chose this video because it has some parallels that could be drawn from the story and the video. For example, they both take place in Italy during carnival season. Also, like Montresor, Ezio is getting revenge on the men responsible for his family's death. However, Montresor is only killing one person and he is doing it in a sneaky beaky like.
