She was an African American woman, and a spy for the United States army. She even managed to escape and help others. Harriet Tubman ran the underground railroad, which was an escape route for slaves that lead all the way up to the north including Canada.  Harriet was an Abolitionist and a Humanitarian. She saved hundreds of slaves.
