EAST stands for Environmental and Spatial Technology--we use cutting edge technology to solve problems in our environment or in our "space" that we occupy at any given time. EAST is a student-directed, teacher facilitated class where the students are responsible for thinking of problems that we can help solve by using technology. EAST is for self motivated students who are familiar with the computer and can do independent research. Some of the technology that we can use is a 3D printer, drone, etrex, production equipment, audio equipment and various software choices to help get your project off the ground. Students are responsible for delivering the projects to their client and giving an oral presentation. They also give a presentation in class telling all the details about their project and the technology used.

PARENT Reminders:

Parent -teacher conferences are September 21--please attend if possible--please schedule your conferences between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.

EAST NIGHT OUT will be held at school October 13 from 4:00-6:00 pm--your child will be bringing home more information, but please mark your calendars to attend! EAST students are required to attend for at least an hour, so make plans now to provide transportation for your child

FINISHING UP FIRST PROJECTS

Just a reminder that I'm asking students to finish their PROJECTS up by Friday, Sept.25--this means the delivery to the client if possible! Monday, we will work on class PRESENTATIONS and rehearse them so that kids will know exactly what to do during a presentation, and hopefully, we will get them presented to the class Tuesday, Sept.29.....IF this deadline isn't met, DON'T WORRY! I thought this would be good for them because they can't work on their projects while I am out for surgery for a couple of days...

After presentations, we will divide into different groups, students will think of new projects they can do to help the community or their environment using technology, and we will start all over again--your student will now have some prior knowledge to bring to the new group ( Hey! I know how to work the plotter now--I can make the next poster!) and will contribute that knowledge to the new group!

EAST Night Out reminder!

Join us for ENO Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 4-6 pm in the EAST room 206! Come see some of the projects we have worked on, and bring any suggestions you have to put on our

"project suggestion" cards!

EAST students are only required to stay 30 minutes--the room gets really crowded if we have too many students staying all 2 hours--please be on time to pick them up!!

A big thank you to all the parents, former students, community leaders and teachers that dropped in on us at ENO! We had over 200 people sign in, but judging by the crowd, I think we missed a few of you! My students were so excited that we had a good turn out. It got them pumped up for Conference and gave them a small taste of what it will be like! Keep encouraging your child to look around and be aware of his surroundings and finding ways to improve them using technology! Can they invent something? Create a commercial for a group? Make some advertisements for someone? Help a population such as homeless or disabled? Champion a cause? EAST is all around us!
