1)      Plan your content: Use the list of suggested content, go online here to see some more examples or go your own way:  A good starting point is here:

e.g. "Hello, my name is ______ and I would like to welcome you to your English for further studies course.  Along with my colleagues, I will be helping you to gain the academic skills and language that you will need to be successful in your university career here in Australia"

2)      Compare your notes with partner and review content / sequence

3)      Dictate the content into ‘notes’ on your phone or type your ideas into a word doc (notes or verbatim depending on how you want to have them on your cue screen

4)      Cut and paste the content into the online prompter:

5)      Practice reading back to set speed and edit content

6)      Find a comfortable space that is quiet, for example a classroom

7)      Open cue/prompter on laptop

8)      Hand your mobile to your partner to hold horizontally to record your video.

9)      Stand approximately 1 metre apart

10)  Speak to your partner rather than the camera—don’t worry about the beginning and ending—you can ‘clip’ the video either on your phone or in you tube

11)  Create a padlet for your class and upload the video.

12)  On Friday, log in to your MOODLE course, place your padlet next to the study guide for your course called “Meet your teacher and classmates—teacher and student welcome videos” ready for your new students to view and upload videos or other content to before arriving in class on Monday morning. 

 

 
 

For me, one thing I really enjoy about teaching is meeting and working with you, our learners from different countries and helping you to work together towards your goals and gradually adapt to the new educational and cultural environment you will discover here in Australia. 

 

What about me, personally? Well, to relax and enjoy myself when I’m not here with you, I enjoy writing and playing music. Creating and playing songs with friends is something that I get a lot of enjoyment from. I also like being outdoors, so walking, cycling and swimming at the beach (when I can get there) are passtimes that bring me a lot of pleasure. I also enjoy travelling when I can get away from Melbourne— if I can’t get away physically, then reading novels is something that helps me to escape the real world a little, to switch off, in my spare time.

 Now it’s your turn to share a little about yourself, so that all of us can get to know each other. Write a few words about yourself or upload a photo or one or two minutes of video direct to this padlet space to introduce yourself to me and your classmates. 
 
 

To get ready for our first class next week, please start by looking through your study guide to get to know about what you can expect from your EFS the course. We will discuss the course goals, requirements and assessments in the study guide in our first lesson together, so familiarise yourself with them before you come and make a note of any questions you have about them to ask the group when we meet. 

 

Also, take a look at the MOODLE resource book for week one and think about the goals for the first week of your course. You don’t need to complete any activities at this stage, but just begin to become familiar with what you can expect and what we will expect from you over the next 10 weeks.
