It would help us stay up to date to what is happening in the teaching field and pedagogy. It would certainly keep one focused and relevant.
"Listening instead of Reading" would be a good and practical way for me to start reading. Because my eyes are often tired and tearing by the time I get home. Listening while driving to and from school would be an excellent time. I intend to subscribe to a educational podcast. Any recommendation?

First and foremost, having known the importance of professional reading, it is an utmost priority to plan and set protected time to get involved in professional reading. Choosing a weekday when professional work is lesser or even a weekend when no family commitment. It is good to plan minimal hours to start that is workable and achievable. And you end up seeing the success of days and time committed for professional reading. Professional reading takes a kick-off time for some too. So Never Give Up if you don't see the fun and energising elements of reading practices initially. Secondly, choose a topic of interest that ties up with the deliberate practice that you wish to improve upon. Thirdly, involve others by seeking references to read. Fourthly, apply titbits of your readings at work and/or share them with other staff.

It is definitely important to be able to find a quiet location that would not be disturbed by others. I think that while reading, it would be good to note down takeaways from the readings which ensures that I am fully comprehending it. Not that we don't want to, but that we get too engrossed in our day to day work, and may not have enough time to get involved in professional readings. But if this gap of not involving in professional reading increases, we may miss current researches and trending practices out there. The notion of involving in deliberate practice with a deliberate goal ahead requires professional reading for sure.

Professional Reading (PR) serves to lead to lifelong learning culture. Through PR we gain new insights and ideas that can be injected into our practice. That itself leads to improvements in our teaching skills and styles. PR plays a important role in deliberate practice. It serves to enhance our classroom practice. There are specific goals for improvement and repetition. It leads to measured improvement in performance. There is feedback to ensure goal is met.

Setting aside a regular timeslot every week is definitely ideal, but this should be something embedded into the organisational culture, or something structured into working time (for eg meetings) so as to get the most out of it. If it is a culture to read and focus on professional reading at work, then it will come naturally to both old and new staff. It also helps professional practice through being updated of the newest research in the field. Professional sharing times during meetings (1 person in charge of reading something for that week and then sharing to the rest of the group and facilitating discussion) is also a good way to get people to read constructively and also have fruitful meeting times.

2) I personally finds it difficult to set aside time for professional reading and feel that it has to be a deliberate effort. There are also a lot of information out there and we also do not know where to start. However, I feel that the professional sharing during meetings are helpful.

Professional reading is very important that helps us in our continual intervention. Time is a constraint. Small group sharings within disciplines helps. Some reading time was spent as a group with the Psy interns. Sharing of reading references within the group and thereby involving others in our own professional reading as well. There are various professional reading links e.g. blogs, Having the skill to find the right resource is equally important. The group also reflected on the deliberate practice of professional reading with a focused topic. This topic has to be in alignment with work areas so that it helps to stay focused amidst great materials when we attempt to look at the reading resources..

Question1:
I think it is important as professional reading can sometimes provide a fresh insight or view towards something. It keeps us reflective and also updated on new methods, approaches or research in the field. This can help us continuously upgrade ourselves. Particularly, I think the point on preventing us from using only experience when making decisions is impactful.

Question 2:
I think setting time aside everyday will help, but finding the right topic and the topic that interests you the most will be extremely helpful. Telling someone my plans and sharing what I am reading on will help as we are accountable to follow through with the readings.

Question 3:
In terms of readings, I have been reading about social skills as part of my internship and this process has helped me learnt more about social skills training for ASD students. I have also read a little on play therapy as part of my interest.
