First, host meet and greet with parents. This is a way to start a connection with the parents and families of all students while getting to know their backgrounds.

Next, communication is a must between parents and families. Have a way that we’re communication is setup either by phone, email, or by an app like Remind or ClassDoJo. “ Parents and families are a way to build bridges, support of their child, and we’re a team for the student” (Edutopia, 2024).

Look into stuff around the community that you can help and support your students parents and families. This can be food drives, community cultural events, or volunteering opportunities.

If your community doesn’t have along that these families would be interested, then plans and host monthly events that can support them. For example, help them with English language by tutoring the parents and families at your free time.

Incorporate different cultures into lesson planning, but first you need to know each student’s background. “Culturally responsive teaching is using their languages, backgrounds, and cultures and incorporating it into lessons, so the students feel welcomed and valued” (Understood, 2025).

Another way is by celebrating different cultural related events or traditions.

Include different cultural related books and read them so the students are introduced to all diverse cultures.

Make learning fun and engaging by using content that relates to real-life examples so students can connect.

Respect is a big deal. Respect and value their background so they student does not feel left out.

Create an all inclusive welcoming classroom environment that has positive impacts.

Differentiated instruction helps meets the needs of all students. This helps educators tailor lesson plans to meet individual needs of all students. Each student learns different.

Project-based learning helps students connect with real-life situations. Using project-based learning students are developing critical thinking skills, engagement with their peers, and problem solving skills.

First, create that safe place. Get to know your students and their backgrounds. Build those connections.

Create a supportive classroom. Use active listening, respect, empathy, and fairness.

Classroom setup; use visual aids for language communication. Display cultural related images in the classroom. Each student needs their own bubble. Take in personal space into consideration.

Inclusive language practices; be respectful of different languages. Let them use their home language. Teach all students to be respectful with different cultural backgrounds and their languages.
