Grading of the CIAs should focus on what they did correctly NOT what they did wrong.  Less focus on grammar/spelling/punctuation and more on the content of the writing.

Students are struggling with the same issues 6-12.  It is a developmental approach.

Technology implementation is scattered and needs to be uniform. Why don't all of our students have access to Chromebooks? It was interesting to see that students are struggling with the same aspects of writing across the board (counterargument, analysis vs. summary).

The biggest take away from today's calibration was being able to discern trends where students were struggling.

Chelsea: Useful to hear from all of the different grade levels.  Also, 12th had similar expectations for scoring.

Sue: It was useful to see the positives and negatives regarding the first CIA on the chart.

I liked having an opportunity to give suggestions for future CIAs.

Cross examination and discussion of the different grade levels displayed how certain strengths/weaknesses travel throughout an education - and its important to know that we're all "in it together", as it were, to address these problems.

The ability to sit down and talk to other teachers about what we are doing in our classrooms and how we are all on the same page was wonderful. My table group had great conversations, and I am excited to share with my department. 

I loved reading papers from other sites to see how we all compare. 1. It was interesting to see the progression of expected skills from 7-12 grade. It was also interesting to see that many students continue to struggle with the same skills like counterargument, critical thinking and claims.
2. It was also interesting to see the differences in the way the CIAs were administered and how much teacher guidance was given. My group felt strongly that this should be more consistent throughout the district.

Appreciative of the way this day honored our collective experience and dedication!  Great to see how we are "more alike, my friends, than we are unalike."  Excited to see next steps begin to take action as we share best practices between sites.   In our day-to-day successes and failures, it is meaningful to take that global perspective and be able to do just as we are asking our students to do - recognize where we are at, set goals, and aim for continuous growth!
