I though the book Every Song Ever was very interesting and made me more aware of the music I listen to. I love how Ratliff is so passionate about music to the point where he dissects tens of songs in order to find different musical aspects in every song he hears. This was an overall enjoyable read and very eye opening to readers who are just as passionate about music as he is.

One of my favorite aspects Ratliff talks about is Speed. How fast a song is whether it be rhythm or vocals, the speed of the song is what draws the listener in. The speed of a song to me is what makes a song interesting. fast songs make me want to get up and move. BYOB by System of a Down is one of my favorite examples of speed. The overall tempo of the song changes multiple times in the song drawing me into the unique sound.

Another one of my favorite aspects from Ratliff's book is Silence. A quiet pause in a song that sets a specific tone to the rest of the song. Pauses in a song can often create a tension or sort of an anxiety for the listener. Pauses in songs give me a very dramatic vibe from the song which I think makes me focus on the deeper meaning of the song such as why the singer wants me to feel this way.

Initially i had a lot of problems with this book. I couldn't really grasp Ratliff's aspects because i didn't really share the same connection with him about music. Throughout reading the book I actually found myself listening closer to the songs i personally liked in order to find these aspects he was identifying and it made me feel closer to my music.

Overall this book has make me think of not only songs, but musicians differently. It also made me realize that every part of a song was put in there for reason and that is beautiful. This book has made me feel closer to music.
