After being horrified in the underworld, the men travel back to the island of Circe, as they were told. She warns Odysseus of the Sirens that are in his way, and how he must deny himself and restrain his crew, so as to not fall victim to their songs. They will also come across the den of Scylla, a large murderous monster. However, on the other side of the strait they will sail in is Charybdis, who will swallow sips and spit out only remains. She tells him he must steer closer to Scylla, taking much smaller losses. She also warns later to not eat the cattle of Helios, or only he will survive. As the chapter wraps up, they set sail, and get past both the sirens and then two monsters on the strait, although some men are lost.
