Within this essay, I will show how the various communities have nurtured natural greenery into their architecture, homes, public thoroughfares and spaces, and other edifices. Although these neighborhoods are not my home, I can see the reflections carry across Portland, even to my own neighborhood in North East Portland. It is a unifying element that can be seen throughout the different neighborhoods. Whether it is a myriad of personally potted plants, entire walls wreathed in viridian, or the ever-present and relentless natural growth, these neighborhoods unabashedly display nature’s beauty.
