The Nazi attempted to abolish religion and culture, but the residents  held services and put on plays and concerts. 
The Jews in the ghettos knew that they were going to die anyway, so they started to not cooperate and disobey the Nazis, anyone refusing to take an order from a German was usually shot on the spot, this information was from "fighting back".

- In the source below it states that guns and weapons were smuggled into the ghetto and the Jews would resist while the Nazis were in the deportation processes, which resulted in more deaths.
