Like many other stimulant drugs, Bath Salts put any user at a very high risk for addiction to the substance. This effect is amplified even further than for adults due to the lack of formation i the frontal cortex of the teenage brain that can cause lapses in decision making. Before the frontal cortex fully matures, teens are very susceptible to drug addiction. There is a risk of teens becoming addicted for every time that the teen uses the drug to get high.

Desired Effects

The desired effects of Bath Salts are that of a hallucinogenic path to escape the user's world. The high is supposed to feel like an amplified marijuana high putting the user at ease but at the same time making said user hyperactive. Another benefit of using Bath Salts is the "speedy high" that it delivers as compared to other stimulant drugs. The reason for this is most likely because the most popular way of ingesting the powder is to snort it which is one of the quickest ways to activate a drug in the body.

The most harmful effects of the drug are the long term affects the drug and what it can do to your body over a long period of time. long term use of the drug can lead to long term effects such as: kidney failure, abnormally high blood pressure, fatal brain swelling. The most prominent that I found most noticeable was the fact that over time skeletal tissue breaks down which in turn could cause the user's bones to break much easier. The short term effects that are quite harmful are mostly mental health issues. These issues include: suicidal thoughts, self harm depression, insomnia and psychosis which is one of the main signs of use. Things such as rashes, nosebleeds, fevers and cramping are likely to arise due to use.

The most deterring part of the history of this drug is the famous story of the man who took bath salts and ate off another man's face. This took place in Miami in 2012, where a homeless man ate the entirety of another homeless man's face off under the influence of the drug. The drug was first crafted in France in the year 1929 along with a slew of other synthetic drugs.
