Education in the Umri village is split into two. We have Primary schools and Higher studies. Primary School consists of students between the age group 3 to 12 years. All the students sit together in one class room separated by their ages and level of learning. It is one class room because of the lack of infrastructure and capital, nonetheless these kids enjoy their day learning and playing around. Although the major occupation in the village is farming, there are kids who come from households that work as labourers in the farm. And often these families are not able to afford even 2 meals a day. The kids from these households come to school mainly to satisfy their hunger and have education as a second priority.

Sivaranjani Mahesh
AM.EN.U4MEE19136

The topic of rural sanitation in India is mostly a problem for the country's female population. When women rise late at night or early in the morning in search of a little privacy to attend to their toiletry needs in the fields, poor sanitation not only spreads diseases like cholera and E. coli and contaminates unprotected water sources, but it also puts them at risk of being harassed .Measures had been done to enhance sanitation in rural regions, such as the Indian government's implementation of a nationwide fiscal incentive program in 2004. The Nirmal Gram Puruskar (Clean Village Award) initiative recognises villages that have achieved 100 percent sanitation on a communal basis and the toilet building program under the government reached a peak in 2017-18 when nearly 30 million new toilets were built.

Ritika R Prasad
AM.EN.U4AIE19053

What Gandhiji said is true. But today, the conditions of some villages are deteriorating. I visited the village in my district as a part of the Student exposure program. The program aimed to understand the difficulty that the students of Government schools face in that village. Upon reaching, we saw that there were not even basic facilities like clean drinking water and toilets. So, in the villages, people had to travel a long distance to get clean drinking water. They do have not enough money to dig a well or even a borewell. The major problem is that people are not aware of how they can conserve water if we can teach them how to save water and then provide the means to do the same. It would be great help to them and would solve a lot of problems.

- Shinil Tony Abraham (AM.EN.U4MEE19033)

Every Village has various customs and dressing cultures. I have seen Ikat weavers in a village. Ikat fabrics are one of the known fabrics in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Orissa. Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique that is used to dye the yarns before weaving the fabric. There is a high amount of detail and precision in the making of the fabric. This process may be repeated multiple times, to create intricate patterns in a range of colors. Ikat patterns can be created in a horizontal, vertical, and diagonal fashion.

K. Bhavana
AM.EN.U4ECE19025

Because of lack of sufficient rains in the past three years, major occupation being farming and continued planting of water-intensive crops like Rice, Wheat, Sugarcane and Cotton. The water resources in the area have taken a toll. So to combat that, the district administration have initiated a new model under which large-scale farmers invest in building a pond in only 10th or 20th part of their farmland.

The water collected in these ponds for irrigation purposes not only benefits them, but also the small farmers around. The investment of the farmers in digging ponds gets returns in two to three years. The scheme also enabled farmers to sow three crops instead of one while recharging groundwater at a rapid rate. Also there was a 3-fold increase in irrigated land enabling hundreds of farmers to earn well and live a good life. Hence, the model rejected the slogan of ‘Jal Bachao Jeevan Bachao’, while promoting, ‘Jal Bachao Labh Kamao’ making the model a peoples process.

Name - K S Varun Reddy
Roll No - AM.EN.U4MEE19118

Students between the age group 13 to 17 years all have to attend high school and get two main certificates. The two main certificates generally involve Class 10 completion and Class 12 completion. The gender ratio at the High schools is a little unstable compared to the gender ratio at the Primary level. Even though villagers have began to change their mind about discrimination between genders, there still exists societal barriers for the female gender to achieve basic and proper education.

Sivaranjani Mahesh
AM.EN.U4MEE19136

Talking about the occupation in villages, most people prefer engaging in farming activities. It is their main income. Apart from farming, some people also engage in activities like running up small scale tailoring units, saloons etc. Considering the situation of a slightly developing village, children may be educated and they may engage in teaching other uneducated students of the village. Another prominent occupation which can be seen in most of the villages is engaging in handlooming activities. Lack of occupation is one of the major crisis in most of the villages. Since activities like farming and all are not at all a reliable source of income, people should be educated and they must engage in occupations which ensure them and their families both job and food security.

KRISHNA SUDHEER
AM.EN.U4ECE19030

The rural transport problem refers to difficulties experienced in providing transport facilities to rural communities. Low population in rural areas makes viable public transport difficult, though people in rural areas usually have a greater need for it than urban dwellers. A large section of people from village area is poor. So they cannot afford to buy cars.
So, transport plays a role in responding to the problem of rural social isolation. Transportation will play a key role in keeping these people engaged in mainstream society.

- Shinil Tony Abraham
(AM.EN.U4MEE19033)

Burra Katha is an oral storytelling technique performed in villages originally developed in Guntur district Andhra Pradesh. It is an entertainment form consisting of prayers, solo drama, dance, songs, poems, and jokes. The main storyteller (kathakudu) narrates the story. He plays tambura and dances to music. All the villagers gather around in the evenings and listen to these folklores. The topics are diverse and are highly informative. In modern-day we see many musicals and movies but the roots of everything started with these.

K. Bhavana
AM.EN.U4ECE19025

We live in a society that is heavily influenced by gender and sex. There are many groups of transgender individuals in India, including hijras/kinnars, as well as other transgender identities such as shiv-shaktis, jogtas, jogappas, Aradhis, Sakhi, and others. In modern Indian, mainly the rural areas all members of these subgroups face severe discrimination and harassment in all areas, and they are subjected to unfair treatments such as verbal abuse, physical and sexual violence; false arrests; denial of share in ancestral property, services, and admission to educational institutions. This discrimination not only denies trans gender people equal access to key social goods, such as employment, health care, education and housing, but it also marginalizes them in society and makes them one of the vulnerable groups who are at risk of becoming socially excluded.

Ritika R Prasad
AM.EN.U4AIE19053
