1- Feet on hoops - A comprehension game to introduce target language. It is a simple physical activity that can be adapted for children of all ages and levels.
Level: Beginner

Age group: 3+

Time: 10 mins

Aims: To introduce/elicit target language

You will need: Coloured hoops

1. Make the game simple for young children by introducing/eliciting the hoop’s colours and place them on the floor around the room.
2. Play some fast, upbeat music and encourage children to dance, walk, fly, run, and hop to the music around the room.
3. Stop the music and the children freeze
4. Call out “Where is the colour red?” and the children run and place a foot on the red hoop.
5. Review again by asking “What colour is it?” and the children respond in unison “RED!”. Encourage them to speak up and project their voices by repeating loudly “I CAN’T HEAR YOU!” This is a fun and effective technique in helping children overcome shyness and awkwardness in speaking.

2 - Cars - A simple movement activity suitable for pre-schoolers It helps focus children’s listening comprehension

Time: 5 mins

Aims: To introduce colours red, yell, green

You will need: A green, yellow or red flashcard.

1. Have the children pretend to be a racing car. Give an example by pretending to hold a steering wheel and drive around the room. Don’t forget to make Brrrm brrrm and tooting noises!
2. Hold up a flashcard and say “Red means STOP!” The children freeze.
3. Hold up a yellow flashcard and say “Yellow means GO SLOWLY” Children move in slow- motion
4. Hold a green flashcard and say “Green means GO FAST”. Children drive around fast, brrrmming and tooting!

3- Sticky body dance - An physical game to help pre-schoolers revise body parts. The activity works especially well with parent and child groups.
Level: All

Age group: 3+

Time: 5 min

Aims: To introduce and practice body vocabulary

1. Put children in pairs
2. Start by playing some lively music and ask the pairs to stand “back-to-back” and demonstrate that they should dance pretending their backs are "stuck" together.
3. After a few seconds change and call out “knees-to-knees”. Children continue dancing without unsticking from their partners.
4. Continue to call out different body parts every few seconds

Examples can include:

- Nose- to- nose
- Feet- to- feet

- Cheek- to- cheek

- Elbow- to- elbow

- Shoulder- to- shoulder

- Head- to- head

- Backside- to- backside (this one creates lots of laughter)

- Ear- to- ear

4 - Big circle, small circle - A simple movement game for younger children that encourages teamwork and spatial awareness.

Time: 4 mins

Aims: To introduce size adjectives tiny, small, medium, large, enormous

Optional: It is ideal to use a large PVC circular mat for this activity

1. Say “Let’s make a circle” Have the children stand in a large circle holding hands
2. Say “Let’s make a small circle” and as a group form a small circle. Greet the children with a wave and say “Hello” and encourage the children to do the same.
3. Continue forming different size circles and increasing the speed to add more fun.
4. Every time the group is formed in a small circle, start introducing simple greetings for children to respond in unison for example:

“How are you?” “I’m fine, thanks “ (using a thumbs-up gesture)

5. Gradually add more questions at the beginning of each lesson for example:

- What’s your name?
- How old are you?
- What’s your favourite colour?
- What’s your favourite animal?
- What’s the weather like?

Always encourage the children to answer as a chorus until they feel comfortable answering individually.

1 - Nice to meet you - An ice-breaker game for new groups to get to know each other and encourage teambuilding.
Level: Beginner

Age group: 7+

Time: 10 mins

Aims: To practice greetings “It’s nice to meet you”

1. Children form a circle.
2. Go round the circle and give each child a number to remember start from 1,2,3,….
3. Call out 2 numbers for example “3” and “8”. The two children with those numbers run into the middle of the circle shake hands and say “Nice to meet you!” and switch places.
4. Repeat the game a few times until everyone has a chance to meet and greet each other.
2- What's your name? Ball game - A classic drama warm-up game to learn group names and help children feel relaxed and happy to join in. Note: Play the game with a large softball, that is easy to pass/catch. With pre-schoolers roll the ball instead of throwing. As an alternative try throwing an “invisible ball” (fun to do with older children)
Level: Beginner

Age group: 6+

Time: 10 mins

Aims: To practice introductions Hello, My name is …”

Resources needed: Big, soft or squidgy ball
1. Have the children form a circle
2. Hold the ball and start by introducing yourself “Hello, my name is Miranda” (for younger children it’s sufficient to say “Hello” and their name) Pass the ball clockwise around the circle and have each child introduce themselves in the same way
3. Repeat passing the ball 1-2 times until children become more familiar with each other’s names.

4. Take the ball again and repeat introducing yourself “My name is Miranda” but this time greet a child in the circle by calling out for example: “Hello, Pietro” and throw him the ball. Pietro catches the ball, introduces himself and calls out another child’s name for example “Hello, Carolina!” and throws the ball to her.
5. Repeat until children are more familiar with each other’s names

This game is great to revise irregular verbs and can be adapted for online classes.
All u need is a "ball" or placeholder and a printout of a football field (you can quickly draw it). Divide Ss in groups of 3: two players and a referee. Place the ball in middle of the field and model:

- the goal of the game is to score. In order to score Ss have to say the past simple and past participle of the Verb the referee will tell them. Ie: Say said said.
- IF the verb is correct the player moves the placeholder halfway across toward the goal. IF the verb is wrong the ball stays still.
- then the second player is challenged. IF they get the correct answer they can "defend" and kick the ball back to the center of the field. IF they make a mistake, then they are going to give a chance to the first player to score!

It's actually easier said than done. And showing/modeling the first round is ideal.
Ss in general (even older ones) love it.

in this activity you can use all of future tenses to survive the titanic: will for instant decisions and certainty/inevitable things; to be going to and if time allows also an extension about the outcomes of the choices they made and use the present continuous to highlight the "appointment" with the rescues.

1) the first slide is a ice-breaker in which each group should nominate a Rose and jack and try to rehearse the famous scene as close as possible to the original

2) second slide is for will for instant decisions and they will have 30 seconds to choose 5 objects to bring with them while the Titanic sinks

3) each group will be sorted into a specific island and there they need to plan they escape by using the object

4) [optional] teacher tells them the outcome of their choices and the activity might be prolonged for another round if something goes wrong with their choice
