Thank you for the first day of the course. So many new experiences already and to be true it was such a big culture shock. Such a great change from the winter at home to the hot weather here. But I think the culture shock is a good thing. It makes you think of the differencies but also the similarities of people around the world. The first day made me realize that national identity is not a inborn trait but results directly from the presence of elements from the common points in people´s daily lives: national symbols, language, national colours, the history of the nation, national consciousness, blood ties, culture, music, cuisine, radio, television etc. And the national identity without a personal identity does not exist. Realizing this is really something that helps me in my work to when working with immigrant students.

We had our first lesson today. I was, for sure, a little bit anxious of what is going to happen. I was also expecting a " normal" classroom. And what happened? We came to a marvellous beach and "built" our classroom there! Awesome! I heard very interesting stories about the names of the other participants. We also had a nice lunch together. What a day! I also had time to plan our work during the breaks: I think this is because we had the chance to step outside of our daily routines.

Thank you for a wonderful day. I was sitting on the beach with you all. The seawiew next to me was really the window to the world. To be far away from home, meet new people is same time exiting and innovative. I was even thinking how to use this kind of external learning environmets with my own work in my own country. Being outside, in nature provides a lot for all our senses.

The first day of this course was a wonderful and relaxing day for me. I liked listening to the stories from other participants. Even though we come from different countries, backgrounds and cultures, we could find some things we all have in common. While exploring for the first task I found out some interesting things about my surname and learned about my family history too.

I think that being on the beach helped all of us feel more open to talk about topics of the day. Sharing the food and stories brings people together. This shows us that learning should not happen only in the classroom. And that’s my quote of the day:” It doesn’t matter where we learn”.

Our first day at Bois Jolan beach was amazing experience. Thank you Rita and all my new coursemates, we had good discussions. It was good way to introduce us through history of our names and 6 words about our identity. This was real nice start to this course and it was interesting to hear the history of Guadeloupe. I can’t wait all the experiences we are going to have during next two weeks. See you tomorrow!

We had quite an interesting session in an amazing place today: it was great to get to know my six course mates and our course instructor Rita. All of the activities were motivating and extremely inspiring for our work at school.

It was fascinating, what we learned about Guadeloupe: some geographical and cultural points and especially some social aspects. Yesterday I had the impression that Guadeloupe is kind of a prototype for perfect interracial understanding and emancipation, but today I came to learn that there are limits to that. I guess that racism is less prevalent here than in other parts of the world, but regrettably it seems that segregational structures exist here too.

Thank you Rita for putting us in the position of learners which I hadn’t experienced in a while. When you asked us to think about our identity I was quite astonished that people from other countries I only just met feel so much in a similar way as I do. Family people - parents - teachers - all working hard and trying to make a difference. Talking about our names on the basis of a poem was also a great activity to think about ourselves and listen to others. I really enjoyed sharing food and drink with you all, also part of our different but similar identity. I liked your little stories on what you brought. I think we all thought about who we are in a very pleasant way. Quote of the day: We are all the same, or are we?
