Simply put, IoT(Internet of Things) is a novel paradigm rapidly making headway in the modern wireless world. The basic idea behind this concept is the ubiquitous presence of a variety of things or objects - like RFID tags, sensors, mobile phones etc. - that interact with each other.(Iera and Atzori, 2010)

As Morgan(2014) stated, a basic rule that can be applied to technology now is, "Anything that can be connected, will be connected." It sounds odd to let so many devices being connected to each other, but this is overshadowed by the potential value it brings.

What if when your alarm wakes you up, it can notify your coffee maker to start brewing coffee while also forwarding your daily plan to the car so it knows where to take you?

Impact on a broader scale

While IoT holds the potential for wonders on a personal level, this concept has an even greater potential when applied to a broader scale, like a city.
Virtually integrating all traffic systems and public transportation is a simple solution to increasing efficiency on roads and decreasing the risk of collisions.
Connecting a city's electric grid to a central system could help save electricity as the system would detect issues with more accuracy.

The definition of Internet of Things tends to cause confusion among a lot of people. It must be understood that the name "Internet of Things" consists of two different visions. The first one concerns itself with a more "network-oriented" version and the other with "object-oriented". Both of these are integrated into a common framework, but depending on the person/organization, the approach varies.
Semantically, "Internet of Things" means "a worldwide network of interconnected devices.

1. Data: The more the information, the easier it plan for your next trip or event etc. A good example will be, when you are booking flights if you have more info you can easily get convenient and cheaper flights.

2. Tracking: The computers keep a track both on the quality and the viability of things at home. It can help you manage when a food is expired and is not supposed to be eaten and if you customize it properly it can act as your trainer by providing customized plans for your workout.

3. Time: The amount of time saved in monitoring and various other task is tremendous as it can do most of the tasks automatically.

4. Money: The financial aspect is the best advantage in this field humans cant compete with IOT’s as they can solve problems and complex tasks easily and can easily replace humans.

1. Compatibility: no standard is determined for IOT they need help of other universal standards such as Bluetooth or Type-C .

2. Complexity: Since it is a complex system its more likely prone failure Ex: in a supermarket due to a bug they system is requesting supplies which are already there and present in the system.

3. Privacy/Security: Privacy is the biggest con of the IOT devices as the data has to be encrypted to prevent a data leak but still it makes data leak a more viable mean as the data is easy to sniff and it is not entirely impossible to decrypt stolen data.

4. Safety: all safety related risks are consumers responsibility for Ex: if someone hacks your account whatever he does with it you will be held responsible for it.
