I believe that the topic of student suicide is very important. I think that it does not get talked about enough because, it makes people feel uncomfortable. As a future school counselor and an educator I have seen may students struggle with anxiety, depression and other types of mental health. This guide is intended for educators and school staff members to learn more about suicide and how they can use the law to help other students. The fist step to overcoming is to learn and become more knowledgeable in the subject. My goal as a school counselor is to help break the stigma of mental health and for students to feel safe to get the help they need, before it is to late.

The topic of student suicide is important in the field of school counseling because, counselors are usually the ones who interact with these students first. Counselors take on the role of being prepared to identify warning signs, helping families find resources and educating staff members. This guide will help future counselor become familiar with what they can do in legally to help students who are struggling with suicidal ideation. We can help prevent suicide by being prepared to take action.
An issue that has emerged is teen suicide rising because, of online classes & a new school environment. Students are feeling the pressure and stress of being educated online and the lack of social connection (Mehrolia, 2020). Educators needs to beware of this as they teach student online and make sure they are continuing to check up on them. We have to find ways to connect with students even in a new world of technology. Online learning can be frustrating for both teacher and student, but we all must find a new way to watch for signs of suicide in students.
