The Navajo spoke a language called Athapaskan, which was a language similar to the one we use in modern day America. They have changed their language over time speaking American but they still speak Athapaskan. Athapaskan is also similar to Spanish the way they pronounce their words, which also led them to learning Spanish. In all the Navajo tribe knows three languages Spanish, Athapaskan, and English.

The Navajos government has changed a lot over 100 years. Originally the Navajo were governed by clan leaders called naataanii or " Ones who make speeches." These leaders would be chosen by the clan members. IN recents years though the Navajo have grown and needed a more formal government. This is also important when negotiating with businesses and governments. The Navajo tribe has also earned millions of dollars by leasing land. All of this has led to Navajo to be so successful.
