         <description><![CDATA[<p>Timbuktu was Greatest University advancements in Astronomy, Medicine, and Mathematics. While Islam was practiced by the rulers, most people practiced their indigenous religions. Songhai was located in West Africa, under the Sahara Desert, Niger river ran through it. It was the cultural center of Africa due to their trade relationships. They were ruled by an absolute monarch who controlled an imperial bureaucracy. Their economy was based on slave and gold trade.</p>]]></description>

The Kongo were converted to Christianity by Portuguese missionaries.</p>]]></description>
