During my search at Google Ngram Viewer I noticed some words that have quite interesting patterns. The word << throne >> follows a declining pattern was used much in the 1800 and 1900 but not that much in the 2000s. Also a increasing pattern has the word <>since it wasn't used in the past in a high degree. Lastly the word <> has a rather fad pattern. First and foremost the word <> is decreasing because it's an old fashion term that it was used more in the past that many countries had Reign so it is a term that is inextricably linked to kings and queens . Secondly the word << Phone>> its due to Technology increasing because it's a device that people use and write about it in their daily basis . We can observe that language and vocabulary adjust over the years with the needs of the community.

The form that someone uses their language shows a lot about their social class. Some of the sentences and vocabulary the people in Greece use appear to be prestige driven. It was hard noticing or remembering something specific but I recalled some things .In Greece you can understand someone's educational level form the way they use the tenses . When you hear someone saying /epige/ instead of /pige / = went , than you can most of the time understand that this person is from a rural area , is older and also their educational level. Also another common situation is that the people that they are from villages and they are engaged in agricultural work they tend to shorten many phrases like instead of /ti Kanis?/ they say /ti kans/ which both means what's up. In my friend group here I always notice that Greeks because are influenced by the English language, that rules social media ,they tend to use in the middle of a Greek dialogue words like cringe and lol.

The two sociograms are the social networks that I am mostly related here , in Germany. I have observed with the help of my drawing that in every group they appear to be some leaders people with strong ties [M,G] that have relationships with almost everyone and they are influencing the group in every factor and others that don't really blend in known as the lames [T,M in the 2nd group]. For me personally when I talk with the first group because it's a Greek group I have many relationships and I feel more comfortable to talk and express myself exactly how I want also I have experienced that many words in Greek are now changed how they sound or how they are pronounce because I have been influenced by German and when I pronounce the /s/ is now sounding more heavy in all Greek words and all my friends are asking me <>. Also with the Greek team we use more slang and we always manage to understand each other but when I am talking with the group 2 things are different .

The 2nd Sociogram is my international relationships here. There I [M] don't have that many strong ties as opposed to G that because is a native German speaker is the more influential and have many strong ties . In this group I can't exactly talk the way that I talk with the group 1 and I always try to talk with my best accent and vocabulary.

The Sociolinguistic competence is a phenomenon that can be observed in every speech. For me personally the style of my speech varies towards to who I am talking and of course where. Reading Labov's 5 levels of attention paid to speech I have observed that when I talk with my friends (casual conversation) I use more slang , I don't pay attention to syntax and grammatic and I use more humor because I know that they won't judge me . The expected use of language is casual and informal and because we have a close relationship I can be more personal and make use of extalinguistic things like gestures and facial expressions. On the other side when I am talking with my professors ( careful conversation) I pay attention to synatx , word order, pragmatic and I control how fast I talk and the choices of my vocabulary eg I use more hedge language . The use of language is more formal and restricted .

Social groups are an important influence in peoples self concept. This influence i have obseved it in my life in Greece but also in many movies and series that i have watched.

I saw a movie the other day which took place in USA - schools their have many 'groups'- . The movie revolved around a guy who was a player in the local football team . It was easily observed that the sport team had an big influence in the guy , when he was with them he had a specific self concept which was derived from the team , the way he talked and acted and used specific inside jokes or certain vocabulary (team's slogans) which when he wasnt with them he didnt have that much. It was clearly shown that when he wasnt around that group -his outgroup behavior- he still had a specific prestige but he was shifting the way he talked ; he used different vocabulary , he talked slower and payed more attention . I have also obseved that in Greece we have many stereotypes according schools ( the rich kids go to private schools and the middle and lower class kids go to pubic schools) , one of my friends , she is going to a private school her linguistic behavior and generally her behavior is hardly shifted in other groups . When she is in her private school group she talks about certain things that someone who is not from this group can't understand e.g. they use a store's name when they are talking about a specific ring <> <>(Zert( Zerteo)=short word from an expensive store) someone who isnt going in this school whose people always buy jewel from their cannnot understand what are they talking about . In generall for some reason in Greece sometimes its tough to communicate with some kinds from private schools because they dont shift their style at all, they think that they have a specific prestige which follows their linguistic and communicative behavior.

Many people that I met this short time that I leave in Germany , they are not originally from here but they came when they were young with their parents. Especially on of my really good friends here , is from Serbia ,she came here when she was 11 with her parents and her brother . Even though she is G2(second generation) she knows her languauge really well , she has some form of natural diglossia because she grew up with two ''mother languages'' . She uses her german towards the wider comunity e.g. school, friends,sports and her serbian -which is not a wide-known language its only spoken in Serbia- with her family .Her parents(G1) ,migrants , they came to Germany for a better economic feature and didnt allow their heritage language to ''die'' so they tαught serbian along the way with german. Most of her relatives dont talk german they always chatting in serbian ,i have observed that when she talks serbian she feels more like herslef and she can talk more easily .

A really high frequency word that i have obseved in the web is <>. <> phonetic's realization is /iz/. Also i observed that the word<> can have multiple phonetic realizations , it can have /'water/ but also /'wota/. Both of this words can be spoken differently i think the main factor that differentiates them is who is speaking and in which dialekt. Dialectal differences is a phenomenon when speakers from different regions use distinct dialects, certain words or pronunciations may be unfamiliar or challenging for each other to understand , this can be a problem in mutual intelligibility. For example in Greece its more challenging for me to understand ,while being raised in Athens, dialekts from Crete especially because they have unique phonetic realizations to the words , and they have a different speaking style.

Week 10

Code switching is a phenomenon that i observe in the interantional community really often . I also have observed it in my friendgroup , collegues but also myself. So the language that i mainly talk in Germany is english and german . I talk german in more official circumstances like class or in my dormitory . English for me has become from a second language to feeling like its my first because i use it when i can express myself more properly - Its my comfort language. I change to English and sometimes Greek , when i want to be more understandable to my friends or when i even want to say a joke.Its hard to code switch between three languages in between different events so I usually end up mixing everything together and do many mistakes even in Greek!
