On week 6, I learned to differentiate the roles of PR in a press conference and how to Plan a press conference. As a student from Interior Architecture, I've always known what a press conference is but never really what it is for.

From this lesson, I learned that it is for information dissemination where they communicate news or updates directly to the media. brand image management where they allow organisations to shape their brand image by addressing issues, highlight their achievements, helping to maintain or enhance their brand reputation.

I also learned that to organise a press conference, there are several factors to think about. to clearly identify the goal of the press conference, to select a suitable date and time that's convenient for the media to make sure people show up, to choose a suitable location considering necessary technology, to prepare the content needed like statistics or visuals to support the messages, to invite the media in advance, to coordinate logistics and arrange for any necessary materials, to design press kits for distribution during the event or after via email, to rehearse, to engage with the audience, and finally to follow up and send thank-you emails to attendees while also providing additional emails that are needed.

Miss Idany ensures to give us the necessary information and explanations needed for us to understand the information.

On week 7, I learned to define the responsibilites of a spokesperson in media relations. I learned that the role of a spokesperson is important in shaping the public perception, as they are the one to deliver the messages of the organisation, the one to address media inquires, and the one to provide statements in interviews press conferences and press releases. A good spokesperson reflects positively on the organisation and brings calm to a crisis, they present the company or the organisation's position after all.

This week, there was also a quiz in class. Although this is my first time learning about publicity and media, It wasn't as difficult as I thought to do the quiz. Miss Idany prepared us well for the quiz, as she emphasized on the importance of understanding the concept, instead of memorizing the answers. There was a mock quiz 2 days before the real quiz, and so came in as an advantage as well since it was still clear in my head.

In week 8, I learned to describe what media monitoring is and why it is important for organisations, journalists, and etc. Media monitoring is to track, analyze, and measure various media channels. There are various types of media monitoring. There is social media monitoring, which involves tracking mentions, comments, and shares of the brand, product, or service across different social medias such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

By monitoring them, the brand can respond to customer feedback, understand the audience, identify current trends, and to respond to the effectively. While social media might help the brand, with one wrong move, there will be a risk of people viewing the brand negatively.

I also learned to differentiate traditional media and digital media. Traditional media stands for the newspapers, radio, magazines, and etc. Digital media stands for social media, online news, and etc.

In week 9, I learned the introduction to news release. It is a written communication for the members of the news media with the purpose of announcing something claimed as having news value. Its aim is to attract favorable media attention, and positive media coverage. It can be a range of news. From upcoming events, new products or services, to latest financial results or budgets, changes to products, and services. News releases have to be relevant and timely.

I also learned some tips about writing news releases. It has to contain all the facts, figures, details, all for a reporter to produce a story. It should also be interesting enough to encourage a reporter to look further into the story.

I found all these interesting because I have heard so many scenarios there reporters report false news. For example, the age of the victim. Now I know what was the standard guide reporters should follow.

In week 10, the agenda was to recap the news release structure we learned last week and to practice another one. There is a basic structure. The date, name of author, news release title, eye-catching headline, introduction that is ideally a sentence long, following by 2 to 3 paragraphs of the news, a quote from a key person, any additional relevant information, then a second quote, further relevant information, ending, conatact details, and notes to editors.

The aim is for only a page. However, if there's more information, you have to go over the page. All these are basics of the structure, kept this way so it doesn't feel like readers are reading a whole report, but rather a news release that is kept short and simple while still having all the necessary interesting information for people to read.
