“Come you who God has blessed.....for I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.

Then the good people will say in reply: Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?”

This text may have inspired Mary Mackillop as her main value was for caring and helping people out. She was never greedy and appreciated everything she had. She always put others first and texts like these would have her inspired her to pursue her dreams. It also could have inspired her to open up a school of her very own (St. Joseph) as he also portrayed and showed the values of love and kindness.

Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you all your life.

Many social difficulties and world spread issues were raised in the Rerum Novarum mainly cause because of the industrial revolution. Relationships between employers and the employee, working conditions and distribution of wealth were all topics that Pope Leo XIII touched on. Leo was always caring to everyone, he never cared about the money but only cared about the people and being kind to them. Not caring about the money was very different from his past in the church which was normally associated with the wealthy and no respect for any of the poor. Mary was also kind and caring to all including the poor and people who didn’t have places to live or children who couldn’t go to school. She opened new opportunities to people and let children have an education.

Priestly Role – These days many people show this but the two I could mainly think of were parents/ family and teachers. Family member show this through encouraging you to do your best and same with teachers, they encourage you to try your hardest and they believe in you.

Prophetic Role – For the prophetic role I would say that parents and even anyone that believes in Jesus shows the values of the prophetic role. They will always be following in Jesus footsteps and always show his values through everyday roles.

Kingly Role – Students, teachers, family, mainly everybody shows the kingly role. There is always one role in your life where you never give up no matter how hard or even how easy it is, everybody has that one situation in their life where they don’t give up. It may take a long time to realise but eventually everyone is true to themselves and I believe that mostly everybody shows the values of the kingly role.
